inlay looks like oak. the pipe is nice joe. i think a longer stem would have worked out better. something a bit more weighty. i like the blast. good bowl shape. i like it man

Side note. Tobacco is easy to get in canada for cheap if you know the right ppl. If you don't. You end up paying 16.99 for a pounch of sail or some other ghastly blend. However, we do have amphora...

IAWR&P bevels are a bitch to polish and i am not "silencing my voice" i just am doing what he wants and thinks looks good (hes the one with the money, remember). Have you ever had a customer say i want a billiard and go nah ill make you a dublin because thats what i think looks better?...

Re: Freehand drilling question
I have used both spade and custom ground S&D bits. both are sketchy and both catch. I do not recommend using them. that being said I do freehand drill with S&D because my lathe has low enough torque that I can stop the chuck when the block catches and the belt just slips on the pulleys. its ...

Re: Collectors ongoing debate on pipe values -
great post Sass! as for the argument....people will pay what they want to pay. who cares if someone is making significantly lower quality work than you and getting paid more. either youre not branding yourself properly or youre not getting something that they are... fix it! if your pipe deserves to ...

Re: Selecting a block?
A plateaux block cut from a smaller burl will have a tighter radius which makes for better grain orientation for an apple while a plateaux block cut from a large burl with grain that is more (nearly) straight up and down with only slight fanning is going to make for a better billiard. This stuff ma...

Re: Selecting a block?
people that say you can select a block better for a billiard or for an apple are drinking the koolaid. theres only so much you can see before you start cutting it. Not to high jack the thread... I have to disagree. You can see quite a lot and make a very educated guess as to what the grain looks li...

Re: Selecting a block?
first and foremost just make pipes, don't worry about the blocks grain right now. unless youre loaded, youre probably not buying really primo briar anyway, and that normally doesn't carry the best grain. I will try to answer the question regardless though, say for instance you have a plateau block. ...

Re: Well, goodbye pre-ban ivory
if you really want to use a white accent material, it might as well just be acrylic. the only reason people use real ivory for stuff is because of it value and rarity. if ivory was cheap as dirty and common, no one would be putting it on high grade pipes. its not as if there is a shortage of white ...
