Re: The psychology of rarity
For fuck's sakes, Yak! These posts are way too long. I can't read all of that shit.
Please try to be more succinct with your posts about violins.
And just for the hell of it, try posting some shit about pipes.

Re: The psychology of rarity
When I was a younger whippersnapper, I was obsessed with the Doors, wanted to be Jim Morrison when I growed up. I got as far as the alcoholic binges and personality disorders. Turns out that doesn't pay as good as I thought, so now I make pipes That's ^^^^ much more colorful and succinct than this ...

Ryan, tell us about the radio stations down in Texas. It doesn't translate well to the written word, but here goes; (BrrrrrtttRRRRRR-O A haHahaHaa) I'll tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat Soft drivin', slow and mad, like some new language Now, listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the Te...

Re: The psychology of rarity
A pipe parallel would be Dunhill. The reputation they gained in their peak 50 years carried them through the next 40 years quite handily, even thought their own quality was declining at the same time other brands appeared that were better than Dunhill ever was. A fly fishing parallel to Dunhill wou...

Bruce,
You were there when we found that black bag with the STOA (Todd Johnson) pipe in it on the table. Do you remember what happened to it? I went to bed early, and Ernie is missing a bag!

Re: Billiard questions
The reason I even brought this up is that I've heard a few fans of Will Purdy's pipes say that they achieve a greater level of smoking quality even among artisians. Over time you will find that a few fans of any artisan's pipes will say the very same thing. It's because they are fans of that guy's ...

Re: Blasting a bamboo.
the sort that I was referring to earlier that only a few pipemakers seem to be able to do is where the width of the transition zone (meaning from full depth blast to zero) is only around 1/8" to 5/32". AND it has an almost clearly defined edge when it fades to zero. Hey George, can you sh...

Re: bevel vs dome
I like a nice domed bevel on some pipes; and I like a nice totally domed rim on others. The thing I really don't like at all is a flat bowl rim. That will make me crazy.

I'm not sure when this ruling came about... There was no declaration, it just evolved into the de facto state of affairs here on PMF. You and Bruce are the only founding member/long time carvers who still drop by regularly, and you are prettier than he is. Plus, you like to fish. See the logic? ......

Re: Tyler is Awsome!
Not so fast, Todd. I'm pretty sure that only Rad can declare pipemakers to be awesome. Tools, cars, movies, etc, sure... we can do those, but pipemakers? Not so much. That requires vast experience, the ability to think like a brown trout, and ancient wisdom. (extra-heavy emphasis on the word "...
