Re: # 6

i like it very much. very nice coloring and finishing. I'm a little confused about the way the shank narrows right at the shank/bowl junction. i feel like you lose a litle of the flow of the pipe by doing that. overall though some very nice craftsmanship.

Re: coffee or tea

In my humble opinion a nice cup of black coffee is best for a morning smoke, and for some reason I love smoking one of my churchwardens to start the day. In the evening after a long day I really enjoy sipping on a glass of nice brandy while winding down and smoking a oversized pipe. But that's just ...

great time of year for a great smoke

This isnt' really a question but more of a statement of my opinion. I was just thinking that this has got to be the most enjoyable time of year to sit outside and enjoy and nice long smoke. The crisp air, the changing leaves, the smell of the first chimneys being fired up. Even on days like today wh...

some new green pipes

I made a green pipe for Christmas last year for a relative and I had some interests in more green pipes for the holidays. I finished these 2 green stained pipes last week. I tried to add some other color shades to the first pipe to change up the green a little bit. The second pipe I kept a basic gre...

scroll saw?

anyone ever used a scroll saw in place of a band saw? my bandsaw broke down and until i find a replacement my brother-in-law said i could use his scroll saw. well he lives like 5 hours away and i didn't feel like taking the drive if it wasn't worth it. i've never used a scroll saw and was having dou...

Re: newest pipe, #11

The more I look at the pipe the more I'm not loving the white stem, but we'll see, my opinion on my own pipes swings wildly from one moment to the next.

delrin rods in a hurry

if one needed to get some delrin rods in a hurry what would be the fastest place to find some? I need some in 5/16 diameter in a hurry.

Re: CORPS show

awesome I didn't miss it. I've never been to a show before and I think I'll have to make the drive down to this one. What other information is there on the show? location and time?

newest pipe, #11

I've been fooling around with rustication techniques and came up with this. I don't know what to think about it yet. Also I don't quite know how I feel about the white stem. In general I'm rather iffy about this pipe in general. Your thoughts and critiques are more than welcome. http://photos-d.ak.f...

2 new pipes

Finally had some time to sit and work on some pipes. Finished these the other day. The churchwarden is made form black walnut that i had lying around for a long time. These are the 9th and 10th pipes I've made. I think at this point while I still have lightyears to go I am getting more comfortable w...

sand paper

I've made a few pipes now and have been kind of dissatisfied with the sand paper I'm using. I sand all my pipes by hand from start to finish and it seems I'm not getting the results that I think I should. I'm curious what kind and brand of sand paper others use and how they use it. Espeacially cuiri...

interchangable dual stems

I am about to make a pipe for a friend of mine and I wanted to make a pipe with interchangable stems. As I am fairly new at this whole pipe making craft I'm am not quite sure the best way to go about this. In the past while making a pipe the stem does not leave the stummel while shaping and sanding ...

Glad you like the design of the second pipe, I wish I could take all the credit but I burrowed the design from a pipe my father used to have. I don't know who made it to give the proper credit.

6th and 7th

I finished both of these over the weekend. While I'm please with the overall shaping of both of these pipes I feel that my finishing has not improved from my previous. I used the same method of rusticating on the 7th as I did for my 5th. I was going to try something different but the person I made i...

I was also hoping to get in on this but thought it was too late, if it's still open add me to the list. If it is indeed too late count me in for the next one.

The rustication was done using a dremel tool with a small engraving bit. I made small gouges close together. I didnt really know what I was doing but for a first attempt I think it worked.
