New RUSS ALAN blast...

Just finished up another blast. Not sure what to call this one. I love how this shape came out. Its partially blasted with a sharp ridge flowing off the bowl and continuing all the way around to the shank. The face of the bowl and shank were left smooth showing some great birdseye while the rest of ...

I was the lucky recipient of a a pair of these new arbors from Kurt. I stopped by his shop yesterday and picked them up. I got to work last night and I really cant say enough good things about the arbors. Perfectly round with no vibration. They will be extremely useful.

This is a comparatively light blast...that is compared to some of the deep, craggy blasts that other carvers do. I think it gives a beautiful finish without seriously augmenting the desired shape. There are some carvers who do amazing deep, craggy blasts (ruthenberg comes to mind). To answer your qu...

I order the bulk of my briar from the Emporium and have never had a problem with any of it. On the other hand, a while back i ordered a bunch of briar from Tim West at JH lowe and didnt have one usable piece in the whole batch. I think that a flawless piece of briar is a difficult thing to find and ...

I love that style of "coral" rustication as well. I have a feeling it is some modification to the typical "bunch-o-nails" tool. Either way..its a beautiful, very earthy and natural look

Kurt...I think we shop at the same woodcraft. haha. I stopped in to pick up a dressing tool for my grinding wheel and came out with a new skew and fingernail gouge...both off the markdown table. I could pretty much spend hours upon hours in that store. Definitely some good deals worth checking out.
