Re: what finish is this?

adlai,

It is true it is just a sandblast finish on a crossgrain piece of briar. I have been doing it for years like that on crossgrains. :)

Re: Bamboo pipe with a lid, yep.

I dont know what wood you used for the bowl it almost looks like cocobolo. It is something that you probably dont want to smoke out of if it is. Just a thought. Here is a toxic wood chart I had found long ago http://www.mnwoodturners.com/New%20Member%20Docs/Toxic%20Woods%20Chart.htm You may want to ...

Re: Learning to crawl with no lathe….classic shapes or freehands

Hey Trad, Just make what you like and want to make. It's not rocket science just make what comes to mind and the important thing is to study shapes. I do not use a lathe to turn bowls on the pipes that I make, and never have. I may someday but after 10 years or so, I dont know if I ever will, LOL, o...

Stems a freind has

Hi Everyone, A friend of mine has a bunch of stems for sale at pretty good prices if you ask me. He checked on PME and most of their vulcanite stems are more than what he is selling them for. You can mix and match them but the only thing is you have to order $20.00 worth. The link to the site he has...

Hi Chris, The Liverpool looks ok, the shank seems to be a tad bit thick for the bowl size. If the stem is straight then the top of the bowl should be too, it is angled a bit. Everyone interprets standards differently though. But to be a true Liverpool it needs to be straight as an arrow on the top o...

Chris, Ok that is pretty high. It is a nice pipe but you havent made pipes long. I dont believe in the pay your dues thing. I dont call it that, I call it build up your clientel then if you make a nice pipe the prices will raise over time. Some of your classics look ok others the shank or stem or bo...

Sure , I get some of my briar from Mimmo, and some from other sources that asked me not to tell anyone. Sorry its not my rule or I would share it with you no problem, but I don't want to piss off the others, and lose the sources.

John, Do you empty your shop vac on a regular basis and clean the filter out? A clean filter is a must. Also it will help if you have gates at all the stations, close the ones your not using and open the one gate and you will have full power to the station you are working at. Thats alot cheaper than...
