I like productive Septembers; 3 pipes
This first pipe took much longer than it should have because I kept putting it down. The other day I didn't feel like working on any of my other projects. I'm glad it is finally done. The grain was beautiful, but it does have a couple sand pits. Should I throw a darker layer of stain over it to mute...
Re: # 9
I was immediately struck by the staining on this. Very sharp!

I like that poker a lot. It makes me think of a tree trunk. All beautiful.

Re: I think of it as a mini volcano-poker
The rustication was done with a dremel. Oddly, I'm actually missing two dremel tools. I'm starting to think someone walked by while we were loading the truck and just grabbed a random box. If I could find the person it would go a little something like this: :fencing: Or perhaps this: :takethat: Or m...

I use alcohol-based analine stains. I was wondering if I should be leaving them out in the soon-to-be very cold garage. Is there anything I should be doing to get ready for the hard cold before it gets here?

A very green cutty.
I don't think I would have used this color for this pipe if I hadn't been asked to, but it did turn out pretty nice. This is my 3rd cutty. Critics are welcome. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/alandalie/DSC06711.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/alandalie/DSC06714.jpg http://i58.photo...

Ignoring that it would also catch on fire, avoid the pine woods. Cherry is good but needs to be broken in very slowly. It is soft and wants to char in a bad way if you get too excited. I've also tried some walnut, but that tasted terrible. One smoke and it ended up helping heat my house on a cold wi...

 Y'all are cracking me up. Had a friend over last night for Othello, darts, brandy and pipes, and the subject of referring to pipes as male/female objects came up. Funny seeing it here today. You want to see some sexy pipes, check this guy's stuff out: http://www.WAPSculpture.etsy.com Supposedl...

The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act
I'm surprised that a conversation hasn't started about this yet. I gotta admit my first thought was 'What silly name am I gonna have to call my Camel Lights now?' It seems to be focused on cigs, but not having read the full act I don't know if this will affect us pipe enthusiasts. Have any of you re...

I had a great time making this thing. I was starting a pick-ax but about half way through I saw this and went for it. It stands really firm. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/alandalie/DSC05957.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g242/alandalie/DSC05973.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g...

I'm still in my first year of pipe making, and I gotta agree that getting PIMO's book was a great move. Looking at the pipes I was turning out at the time, I can see a definite difference between anything made before reading the book and the pipes that I started making immediately after reading. The...

I smoke a cherry pipe which I am very happy with. Soft and easy to shape, so great for practicing pipe shapes. It is much softer than briar tho, so break it in very slowly. I had one new cherry that was first smoked after what may have been just a tad too much cheap whiskey (mmm Kessler). I was haul...
