Stephen Thats a great idea! :thumb: Another way to square bamboo, especially if you don't get it right the first time is to insert the tenon you're going to use into the bamboo (Don't glue it yet though) then get a piece of sandpaper coarse enough to take off some material, 220 woul be a good number...

All good Ideas just thought I would add this! Yes you will always have some backlash. Be sure to always use the handles in the same direction, if you have to back away a bit, try backing out more past the backlash then turn back in to the desired cut. On a big lathe if you do not take up this backla...

Welcome Chadd,
3/4 is what I use but sometimes after some final sanding of the bowl gets enlarged and sometime I just keep enlarging because the shape calls for it.
I have only noticed that the prince and the buldog shapes have larger shallower bowl shapes.

Trevor great work and the site looks real good but I still can't find a Talbert for sale there. I saw a picture of the store a while back on your site and they had Talbert's for sale. I guess I will have to come to France to see any Talbert's for sale.

I have one of those 1/16 tip Sharpies that would be fun. :(
The ink used in those makers can be bought in liquid form I would think.

Ben,
Very nice the stain as said is great.
Like Nick said the stem is a bit thick looking and if thined it looks like it could be a very nice light pipe that you forget is in your mouth at times.
Enjoy!

Scott,
Nice job and lots of good advice!

For my mortis I use a 4 flute end mill in the lathe or in the drill press. No chatter and a perfectly flat bottom with or without draft hole. A 2 flute slot drill will work as well but the 4 flute chatters less.

David, I really like the shape of the stummel on the first one, I would like to see the drilling for this one. Also you seem to have no problem with rustication. Good work, keep it up! The owners will be proud I am sure.

Well I hope you get something back for your efforts of course. I am new to this pipe making and it looks like you could have a good knowledge of adhesives, special materials (maybe a source) and polishing just to mention a few. Also if you are smoking your own pipe by preference they could not be al...

I am new to this Pipe Making but I have made 3 full bents to date and the last was the squashed tomatoe. On this one I took a tip from Michael Parks, he told me to drill down with about .030 of the entrance to the bowl bottom and then use a small punch that I bent to get a better attack angle to pun...

I drill my chamber first and then my draft hole. Am I doing this in reverse order or is it each to his own?

Bryan,
Yes as was said good job. I like the shape alot nice lines it all came together very well.

I bought a couple of those Tagua nuts a while back, I cut one open and put it back in the junk box. I will have to take another look at it after seeing it on your pipe.

Found time to finish another. This is a remake of the Brigham 3 dot York I have and loved, with a few changes and will smoke finer I am sure. It is also my first hand cut stem. I dont know if I should finish the top of the bowl, your thoughts please! http://www.pattispawprints.com/pipepage/MyYork2.j...

Candle. I use a candle. It's worked for at least a dozen stems. Haven't ruined one yet. I'll stick with that. R. This is my method as well. I do use a GLP tobacco tin or such to make the form or by hand. Also my stems have been hot enough that they will bend with gravity at times and it has not cau...

I have cord emery cloth that you can get from about .020 diameters that could do this after bending. But no thanks! I do use the cord to smooth the airway in the stems though.

Sanding in the same direction as the flow of air is theoretical the best way anyway! Right! 8O
