Wow - I haven't been around here a lot recently, but this thread is very interesting! Ben - I like the pipe. I think the most important thing I've learned from reading this thread is that there is a key difference between asymmetry (mind you, I have not attempted an asymmetric war club yet) and imba...

Wow. Believe it or not, this pipe still looks exactly like the pictures. I am FINALLY getting back to making some pipes - starting with finishing this one. My father has moved to my area, and he's going to be working on pipe making with me in the garage. I can't wait! Who the hell are you? In...

It's okay, John - I told Brad you wanted him to ship yours to my address. If it makes you feel any better, they sure are sweet!

Did you turn the bulldog on a lathe (top of bowl and rings)? I want to work on my turning, but first I have to figure out how to sharpen my tools without screwing them up.

Oh, man, it's the coolest thing since sliced bread. I do a rough drawing of the block on one "layer" in the drawing. Then I lay out the stummel -- in a second layer -- however I want or need to. Then I do the stem in third layer of the drawing, the boring in a fourth layer, the dimensions...

Making some progress...

Okay, keep in mind that I haven't made a pipe for about a year. This one may take me some time, but I wanted to post some progress pics and get some input as to how to start making my pipes a little more, I don't know, graceful. Here is what I have so far: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/JJC...

Also, I'd like to put in a plug for John Crosby as it is apparent that his shop is safer than Brad's. After all, I went there for a pipe making lesson and all I did was sand one of my fingers. Munkey goes to Brad's and ends up blasting a ball. You do the math.

Scott, I hope you don't mind, but I'm gonna briefly threadjack you here too since it is probably more appropriate here than at CPS that I ask. Let's say I am in the business of selling pipes (I'm not, BTW - hypothetical). I go to another pipe maker's shop to do some learning, and I make a pipe. Mayb...

I'd give a lesser-important body part to be able to make pipes like those. Out of curiosity, how many hours do you have into pipes like these?

I may not end up posting my newest pipe here. You guys have apparently left me in the dust. Great looking pipe, Scott. Tyler put it best - "wow".

Scott - I think I was kinda inspired to get back into it by looking at your pipes in Chicago. I think we started around the same time, but I stalled about a year ago having made a total of 9 or 10 pipes, whereas you kept at it and are now MUCH better than me. I'm trying again, though. And having fun...

Pipe making is kinda like golfing...

Go away from it for a year, and when you start again, it's like starting over again for the first time. Well, maybe not quite. I looked back in my posting history and the last time I posted in the Gallery was this weekend LAST year. I'm back out again for the first time in a long time and the good n...

I had been thinking of using the first method also, but I heard that if your stem has a delrin tenon on it, then this delrin to delrin mortise and tenon idea was not a good one for some reason. I can't remember. Am I correct, or am I missing something here?
