I use dremel tool with the flex shaft. I do find my self using the tool less as I perfect my pipe making skills but it does still get used. You can pick it up in home depot if you are looking to get started right away.

Congrats! That is an awesome looking pipe. I like the bone on the end of the shank, it goes well with the stain you used. Hope it sells quick!

Your choice on the bend. If it were mine, I would bend it ever so slightly, just to get the end of the stem parallel with the top of the bowl. But, that is your choice. By the way, that is a nice looking pipe. As Ben said, tell us more... I'm in agreement with marks on the bend. and also the fact t...

they were good for me to start but found that I wanted something a little bigger. I got my new ones from jhlowe http://www.jhlowe.com/
I have a motor so I also got the mounting arbor for that. It works great and if you call Tim he is wonderful to deal with and answers any questions you might have.

Welcome to the board. First off what size lathe do you have and is it a metal or wood lathe ? I have a 7 X 12 inch metal lathe and have it sitting on a workbench. I don't know why you need to level it as long as it is on a good solid stand or a sturdy workbench that is fairly level. Bill Ditto :thu...

I drilled hole in the cocobolo and then chucked the briar iin my lathe to make a tenon. a little epoxy and clamp and it was good to go. I then used a forstner bit to counter sink the end of the shank a bit so the stem sits inside the cocobolo. I hope you understand my ramblings

I have mine bolted down to my workbench which is attached to the wall. Its pretty sturdy but would like to make stronger bench dedicated to the lathe because I still seem to get some vibration when running it. It works good enough for now. the only way to know how much it will vibrate would be to tu...

I believe I have seen some sites that offer a non flash or non activex sort of plain jane access to their site. maybe that would be an avenue to check out. Then people can make up their own mind as to which way they want to view it. Oh and the pipes you have been producing are exceptional looking, k...

I have a Delta Midi Lathe and I do the same as random. I also agree that there is too much wobble on the tailstock when it is not secured.
