Military mount mortise

I was thinking of grinding one of those stepped unibits to use as the mortise bit on a military mount stem. Has Anyone done this? This may be one of My stupid ideas but I would appreciate any feedback, thanks, Norm. I know Premal will say TIAFO and I will but I would like to know if it has been trie...

Re: Importance of Shellac ??

I thought the shellac was just to seal the dye. I have been using a very diluted coat of shellac and then basically buffing to remove most of it. Is this wrong?

Re: PITH 2015

So Josh asked if I wanted Him to give My critique in a PM or on the forum. My reply was it doesn't matter to Me but maybe Someone else could learn from the critique. What are Everyone's thoughts on having Their pipes critiqued on the Forum? I am good with it either way, Norm.

Re: PITH 2015

Pipe and review both received, many thanks Seamonster and notow1. I have offered a brief review to Seamonster and will give a more complete critique when I've gotten a few more smokes in his pipe, but he did a great job. All of the offerings look really nice, talented pipemakers here. Sorry I can't...

mightysmurf8201, I think it is time to say thanks for running this year's PITH trade. It is hard to believe anyone could do as well as Scotties but You did, Norm.

Re: bent billiard

Thank You for the comments and advice. After I pushed the stem in all the way most of the faults went away. Okay they didn't but it helps when Someone points them out and I will use that knowledge. Thanks for the help, Norm.

bent billiard

I was trying to pay attention to some of the things Walt mentioned in His post about making things flow better. If nothing else it made Me think about the design a little more. I don't know if this would be considered under bent but it seemed to look best to Me where it is at. I would really appreci...

Re: Chimney sweeper

Bark will eventually come off the pipe and at that point you will have a pipe that looks like it is falling apart. It's important for pipe makers to think about how a pipe will look with use. Chips of bark coming off a pipe is going to make the customer feel jipped. Plateaux is fine to use, but do ...

Norm, I don't know what you do when you need a blast, but I'm happy to blast them for you for a fee. I appreciate the offer but it will be a while before I make a pipe that will look good blasted. I haven't purchased any premium blocks of briar yet. I guess You wouldn't want to blast a pipe with a ...
