Re: Clear Acrylic rod stock
I have made a couple of stems with clear acrylic and the airway darkens from the smoke. I think it was cast acrylic but not 100% sure, Norm.

Re: advice on panel pipe
Well this isn't working for Me, mainly because I can't straighten the stem. I will make another starting as a billiard and turn it into a panel. I tried a tapered stem on this one but prefer the saddle stem. I will post photos of the next one, thanks for all the good advice, Norm.

advice on panel pipe
Ok, I am trying to make a panel pipe and hope I can get some advice. I am going to round the corners on the bowl. After I straighten the stem and shank I don't know if I should taper the stem or make a saddle. If a saddle is called for would You make it a sharp saddle with only a little taper? Shoul...

Re: almost a PITH pipe
Norm. If you increase the angle on the bottom of the pipe just a touch it will probably sit quite nicely. Joe, I considered that but I am already thin on the bottom. I decided to smoke this one and it is now My favorite pipe so I don,t feel bad about it. The good thing is My shop pipes are better t...

almost a PITH pipe
If I set a dime on the bowl this will sit but I think I have taken all I can off the stem. I thought I would post here and maybe get some advice on what would improve this one. Any and all comments are appreciated, Norm. http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p761/notow1/non%20sitter/non20sitter20001_z...
Re: PITH 2015
OK, I got one made. This takes the pressure off and hopefully I will get a better one finished. Re: A Doggie Turd for your Critique
Mind posting them here, too? Just for posterity. :D Posting what sir? You mean the pipes I've made? Heck, I've only made 6 and I've posted them all here at one time or another except one that I made from oak that's now back in the wood pile. I think He was referring to Premal posting His techniques...

I notice the accomplishment scale is in very small increments compared to the experience scale. I figure I will be on the graph in about another year, Norm.
Re: PITH 2015
So is Anyone making any progress? I think I have one getting close but I have to see if I can make the stem light enough for it to sit. I am trying to save the gluing until the end but that makes things difficult too. The bamboo is tough enough but Who added the sitter part? What's wrong with a nice...

Thanks for the advice at the Chicago pipe show
This is the first chance I have had to thank all the pipe makers that gave Me advice or help at the show. Special thanks to Walt Cannoy and Jeremiah Sandahl. There are too many to name without missing a name, just know Your help and advice is really appreciated. I feel as though I have advanced a li...

rustication question
When You rusticate should You try to anticipate how much wood will be removed so the shank end is not larger than the shank? Do You rusticate then re-sand the shank and stem? Here is an example and I would appreciate any other critiques. Thanks, Norm. I almost forgot to thank Every one who gave Me g...

Re: PITH 2015
I am glad to say I have added another bamboo shanked pipe to My personal collection. Three more and I will have a seven Day set, none of them are sitters, Norm.

Re: PITH 2015
Well, I am starting My third pipe. The good thing is I will have a nice collection of bamboo stemmed pipes to smoke. I am getting close on the bamboo junctions but the sitter part is a struggle. The next one will have a big bowl and a big bend to see if it balances better. Is any one else having a h...

Re: Machined pipes.New Factory in Nashville.
So as I read this there is some resentment towards people that make pipe turds and charge premium prices for them. I have a question about when Someone goes from an aspiring pipe maker to a turd maker. I do not know nor have I met Todd Johnson but from reading His posts and what has been written abo...
