Re: Stem material preferences
I have read all of the posts on the Forum and think it is best to not mention smelly ebonite and I can't find the smiley face emogie, Norm.

Re: bamboo
Thanks Doc. Are You saying to shorten each junction by half in both directions and make that a flush fit? That would have less of a beaded look, Norm.
bamboo
I thought I would try to get better with bamboo techniques and would appreciate any advice and critiques. This has a stainless steel tube from shank to stem forming a reverse tenon. This is just buffed and waxed. Thanks for any comments, Norm. http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p761/notow1/KC/F7538...

So with a Judge and entrants being on this forum, would it be proper to post pipes in progress for advice and critique? Thanks, Norm.

George, I really believe People go to the show thinking They want to buy a $600.00 or more pipe. They won't even look at an inexpensive pipe, Norm.

Re: Importance of Shellac ??
For anyone who was in the military before they all switched to those awful suede boots, something I realized not that long ago is that if you were properly taught how to do a good spit shine on a boot and understand what's happening on a microscopic level with the leather, you pretty much already k...

Re: chuck jaws
I was wondering if Someone who had poor vision like Myself had this happen. After turning the block I removed My Trent Rudant jaws and installed the regular jaws. I could not get the jaws to seat properly and tighten on the rod stock. After messing with it for about 15 minutes and thinking that som...

Re: Bulk buy at vermontfreehand
Thanks for the replies but I am trying to find out ( for ordering purposes ) if the 8 swirl is the marble or the mottled. I know I want the 8 swirl so should I make sure what I want is available in either the marbled or the mottled? Thanks again, Norm.

George and Jeremiah, I think the Two of You are among the most helpful on the Forum and it scares Me when this stuff happens. It is Valentines Day and You Two should kiss and make up before this gets out of hand, Norm.

Okay, I think I'll try this but I am a little confused about the single swirl and the 8 swirl. Is the 8 swirl the marble or the mottled? Thanks for any help, Norm.

I just saw the bulk buy for the sem ebonite rods. Is Anyone participating in this? I have been hesitant to buy the expensive stuff because I still end up wasting a lot of material but this might be a way to get My feet wet. Any opinions and advice would be appreciated, Norm.

Has Anyone ordered from woodshopbits.com. I recently ordered a 9/64" tapered point bit with an overall length of 8" but received one with an overall length of 5 1/2". I have contacted them and am waiting to see what happens. Any input might be helpful, thanks, Norm.

Some have told Me They stabilize the mortise with shellac and Others use ca glue. My thought is if Someone does a thorough cleaning with alcohol the shellac will be removed and make the stem fit loose. Is Anyone willing to share how They stabilize the mortise? Thanks, Norm.
