Look smart - Smoke a pipe

Pipe smoking: It's
not just for the
pretentious anymore.

You Father did it....
smoke a pipe.

(Too much innuendo?)

Quite the opposite: people making a living selling pipes are too busy making pipes to chase down unobtainium, though I suspect that being in the game a long time helps unobtainium come your way from time to time. I think enthusiasts like me are more likely to expend a lot more energy on a secret ing...

TO ALL RESPONDENTS:
I wish to put my finger back in this dike!
( Please forgo innuendo on the above)

Thanx to all for info. Let's allow all to be heard and humorous -life is too hard to spend this much time on what (IMHO) should be a given.

Respectfully and playfully,

Hi guys, RE: boiling in distilled water - I've heard Peter Heeschen does this too. How is it done? How long does one boil it? Also: could you use a moisture meter to determine the moisture content of briar? I would think so. It seems this would help in purchasing blocks - for those fortunate/dedicat...

briar treatments

Hi Folks, I recently read that Tony Rodriguez spent a lot of time researching and developing methods of treating briar to obtain a sweeter or neutral taste. I was wondering if anyone could point me to some info on treating briar? I've found several discussions on oil curing but little on boiling, et...

Glue / Epoxy

Hi Guys,
What types and brands of glue/epoxy do you use to attach
a wood ferrule to a vulcanite ring?
I was given a decent Karl Erik Extravagant Horn to repair
for a friend.
Thanx much,
Magruder

Sanding/shaping

Hi Folks, Firstly, thanx to all that responded to my tools Q. Last nite I took a dremel and needle files to a chubby old junker to reshape the stem and mouth piece. It had lots of wood and stem to work with. So my two questions are: I have created slight rounding/gaps where stem and shank meet, even...

Newbie Q : Tools

Hi,
I want to get a pimo pre bored block to start my first pipe.
What tools should I use/obtain to remove and shape the wood ?
I have a Dremel, but that is it.
Also, can one reshape the prefitted stems and perhaps open up the bit, etc.?
Any and all comments welcome.
TIA
Magruder
