Two new pipes.
KNR Pipes has two new pipes. The Aydyn Freehand, a freehand bent poker. And The Terra Freehand, my interpretation of the classic fan. Please stop by and take a look at http://www.knrpipes.com. Any comments are appreciated.

So to do the contrast with black grain you stain black first, sand, then conrast?

Re: A couple new pipes.
Oxblood dye is just a cover. I wouldn't want customers to think my pipes were a hazmat concern =)

Re: New website, New Pipe.
Thanks for all the advice on the website. I've cleaned it up a little and removed the flash. I'll be updating it and cleaning it up more in the near future.

Re: New website, New Pipe.
Sorry about that. It does require flash. I will try to make a more traditional gallery style in the future. Thanks for the feedback. That helps allot.Tyler wrote:I don't see a photon the available page. I'm using an ipad, if that matters.

Re: My First pipe
A little late but here are few curing tips. You can work it green and cure it later in which case take the bark off.
If your going to cure it first leave the bark on and paint all the cut ends with latex paint. This will help the wood dry more naturally and help prevent splitting. Kevin.

leaving bark on briar.
Hey guys. I have a few blocks of plateaux that have some very deep bark pits. I removed most of the bark and sanded down most of the plateaux. I would like to leave some of the bark in the deep pits for color and a rustic look but wasn't sure if that would eventually fall off and leave an unevenly c...

Re: Removing carnauba wax
Thank you all for the advice. First, In a small corner I tried the wire wheel. That was a bad idea because it left a dull gray residue and didn't take off the wax effectively. Next I went with alcohol and that worked out well enough. It didn't remove the wax from all the crevices but the alcohol bas...

Re: Removing carnauba wax
What about the plateaux? I won't be able to get into the groves a crevices with the sand paper. I was thinking mineral spirits but would prefer to buff if possible.

Removing carnauba wax
I just finished my pipe and noticed some scratches I missed. Also I wanted to stain the plateaux with black dye. I was wondering if a tripoli buff will take of the the carnauba wax and if it will, will the wax ruin the tripoli buffing wheel? Thanks for you help, Kevin.

Also if you happen to have a cordless drill you will often get a higher rpm then a corded one. I have a Ridgid 18v that spins at 1500rpm and a dewalt xrp that spins at 2100rpm. With a fresh charge both drills work much Better for buffing then the conventional corded drill.

Re: Buffing at 3600 rpm
Thank you all for your advice. My buffs arrived today. I started with my 900 rpm electric drill. Moved up to my 2000rpm cordless. After practicing a while and getting a feel for it I moved up to 3600 grinder. It did a great job and I didn't have any problems. As mentioned above I couldn't get all th...

Re: Buffing at 3600 rpm
I watched a couple of beall videos and corisponded with a representative and both seemed to imply that the bowl buffs were intended for those kinds of speeds. Now I'm starting to think I made a poor decision.
