Re: Shellacing Problems

To me it's sanding to a point and anything finer is polishing. From 1000 up is polishing without using buffing wheels. I take it out to 3000 and man does that look good. I however have a lot of time on my hands.

Re: shaoing a zulu

I like what you have done. I am partial to the shape. If you didn't live so far away I would offer to buy it as is. I would finish it in black/yellow contrasting.

Re: Making a pipe with no electricty

I made my first two pipes with a cordless drill and files as well. they were absolute garbage BTW. I think the issue you will run into is finding a bit that will fit in a brace, AND is capable of making a smooth, rounded chamber. You can drill the draught hole and cut the slot using a pin vise. I h...

Re: What is a Pipe Turd?

Do all you have been told to do to make your first pipe more acceptable. Once done hang it up in your shop to remind you about your first run at pipe making. I did that with the first knife I made. The first bone fish hook I carved was purchased from around my neck. I did however practice carving ho...

Re: SHOP SAFETY!!!!!

I have had some close/dangerous calls using wood working equipment. Usually as a result of inattention to what I was doing. Came close to losing a finger to a blade on a field radial arm saw. Pay attention to what you are doing.

Re: Bacon!

Speaking of bacon, I tried something this morning I'd heard about: cooking bacon in the oven. I will say that it works and it was probably the best bacon I've ever had (sorry Mom). I used a 2 piece broiler pan that lets grease drain to the lower pan. 10 minutes at 400 degrees (lower element), flipp...

I have a few meer liners and thought about using them but also have a couple meer lined pipes both of which are cracked. Think I will just keep the liners as a curiosity of days gone by.

Re: drilling and facing curved bamboo

Also, don't spin the bamboo too fast. Bent pieces can flex (center of mass isn't spinning on the spindle axis) and cause a gap on the mating faces. Just make sure you knock off the shoulder on the bamboo mortise. That will help with gap issues without providing you with the little gap Jeremiah is t...
