Re: "Scottie Dog"
Very nice. I like the contrast of the skinny and the plump... Definitely original.

Re: Le Morta d'Author
Overall I like the direction this is going. I agree with Wayne, there is something bulgy going on at the shank stem junction, bottom side i think. The line on the top of the shank/stem is very graceful, the bottom doesn't match.

Re: Billiard...
Thank you i.keenum. Nice pipe rob. Keep up the good work, is the mother of pearl inlay going to be like a makers mark on your pipes? I'm not sure. I understand the commonly accepted "need" to have a stamp and imprint your "brand" on the pipes you make. However, I haven't signed a...

Re: A pair of Morta Billiards
It's different than anything I've worked with. Not necessarily easier or more difficult, just different. There are some similarities to working with fresh oak, but a little more temperamental. Extremely sharp tools is essential. Remember, this is semi fossilized wood, so it is a little more fragile ...

Thank you Tyler... would you please elaborate... perhaps with a visual?

I appreciate the sculptural quality of your pipes I've seen. Keep up the good work.

Re: Billiard...
Jeremiah, thank you for the notes. I will definitely consider them in the future. The taper on the shank went that far due to trying the stem rotation sanding method. The junction was perfectly round before I began sanding, then I found a sand pit. While I was chasing that, I sanded out of round, an...

This is a rusticated billiard I recently completed. Top grade Italian briar with a delrin mortise sleeve, hand cut ebonite stem with an integral tenon and a mother of pearl inlay. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/v/t1.0-9/10636000_994623830563964_5430739428874748714_n.jpg?oh=78...

I was just looking at google maps of the area, there are quite a few parks there. Does anyone know if they are dog friendly or perhaps a local dog park?

Thanks Todd. The Misses and I are trying to figure things out. She doesn't want me to have to "go alone", but we will be looking for things online that she and Oliver can do in town while I'm at the show.

Columbus show...
Does anyone know if the venue is dog friendly? I may need to bring my well behaved, friendly, lovable, etc. boy Oliver. We had to put down his twelve year old brother a week ago today, and coming from Kalamazoo MI, we don't want to leave him alone for extended periods yet. He (and we) is (are) still...

Re: Question for the Mortaheads in here...
Thank you Chris. I thought it to be as fragile (if not more so) as meerschaum. Nick... I wouldn't think it necessary, except when it is ;) With the one Ive decided to keep, there was a flaw in the wood that exits the bowl at the front/chin area, I did carbonize mine. pipedreamer... thank you. I have...

I've finally experienced my first morta smoke. It seems to act similarly to a meer right from the beginning.
