Re: PITH 2020!

Sounds like a lot of fun and it'll drive me to do something outside my comfort zone. I'm in!

Does anyone have experience with this chuck from Penn State Industries?

Re: Brew day!

I've been brewing for almost 10 years now. Usually brew English style ales and brew/blend sours. I tend to buy and drink a lot of hoppy American beers, but hardly ever brew them for some reason. I belong to a group of homebrewers who do barrel aging projects. We decide on a recipe, acquire a barrel ...

Re: KC NAC Pipe Contest Flop

This is a beautiful pipe. There's something about the cant of the bowl that seems just right to me. Great work.

Is there a rule in the competition that says you can't show the work online before entry?

Re: 2nd pipe :|

OK - been slowly working on the shank and stem here and there over the past few weeks. Any other suggestions for improving the shape would be appreciated. ...if you make the shank lines straight from the stem to the bowl junction. There's plenty of material to remove right around the bowl junction. ...

2nd pipe :|

Let me start off by saying, I know this is bad. I made some miss cuts when rough shaping and what should've been a medium sized pipe turned into a small, flat sided, thin walled mistake. Initially I wanted to blame the tool, but really it was just my inexperience with how much material can be remove...

Re: 1st Pipe - Billiard

Thank you for the critique, Wayne. You are spot on! It is Dubliny - slightly tapered bowl, wider at the top than at the bottom (by 2mm actually). I probably would not have realized that on my own. Reading the typical description of a billiard doesn't really key you into these subtlies of the shape: ...

Re: 1406

This shape reminds me of a gourd (not a bad thing) - very fluid and organic. I would be interesting to do this type of shape as a play on a calabash - with a meerschaum insert.

Re: Billiard "Sir Wilfrid"

I really like the proportions of this pipe. Feels almost off balance but in a good way, if you know what I mean - tentative. The transition from the thin round shank to the wide flat fish tail bit is nice. Is that a military/push stem?

1st Pipe - Billiard

My first pipe - made from a kit from Mark Tinsky at the American Smoking Pipe Co. Critiques appreciated.
