Re: Process Shots, Boring Pipe

It's true! Your feet will spread out, after not being crammed into narrow shoes any more. My toes used to fall asleep on runs before I switched to a wider barefoot shoe. They're great.

Yes, Doc, that weekend was about as great as it gets....
that said, the Vegas show is nothing to sneeze at. Less making, and more gabbing, and LOTS more pipes to ogle.

Re: Anyone tried block microcrystalline wax on a buff?

I, too, have now used this new method to a great result on blasts of various colors. An excellent sheen, very even and appealing. Goes on easily. However, it's not so great on stems, leaves a bit of film that dulls the shine I've worked so hard for..... George, what's your take on using this on stem...

Carnuba Wax Powder

howdy! I'm looking for carnuba wax in powder form, not flake, hoping to be able to get better coverage on blasts. All I'm able to find is massive massive quantities (50kg minimum, 100kg min). Does anybody have a source for this? Am I barking up the wrong tree thinking a powder carnuba will wax a bla...

Re: Stamping makers name

The smaller the stamp, the easier it is to pull off a successful impression, particularly on a curved surface. There's a trade off, though. The smaller you go, the less room you have for design. It's worth having a conversation with whoever is making the stamp to see how they assess your design vers...

It is totally possible. In fact, some might argue that that is the best skill builder..... and it's slow.... and inefficient. But possible.

Re: Stems for sale

Hey Trevor!
I ordered a pack of the long ones and meant to ask: are they drilled? I know they need a tenon, but drilling too, or just some clean-up?

thank you!
Jeremy

Re: the shape of a billiard pipe

Well, I was only being partly snarky. You will find it very difficult to shape a proper billiard without a lathe. Here is a great video Walt made a few years back. It does use a lathe, but gives you the fundamentals of the shape. Instead of making the moves on the lathe, make the same moves with you...

Re: Airway off center left to right

So, thinking about it this way: You drill the draft hole, and then reposition the block to drill the mortise (or vice versa, depending on your level of crazy) and now you are not on the same axis. Either your headstock and tailstock are misaligned, or your block is not square enough and you are shif...

Re: Bamboo Questions

The closer you get, the smaller your file, and the finer the cut.... I like tiny round needle files at a 2 or a 4, also those sort of oval shaped needle files (I know they have a name, but I haven't had any coffee yet....) and go slow.

Re: Author

Doc's point that even the tiniest material removal makes significant changes in the overall design is an important one! Tyler once showed me a trick where you gently press the pad of your thumb onto a curve, and just that amount of change, a mil it less, you can easily see tweeks you need to make. S...
