Thanks Premal, maybe I'll just call you sometime!PremalChheda wrote:You are not very far off from making the finish excellent. If you get a chance, please call me and maybe I can help with some of the process over the phone, or skype.

Re: Oskar shape
Above, it pushes against you, below it pulls away. And what would that do other than make it difficult to hold the pipe properly? I sand my stem/shank joint to 1000 grit and buff the stem (with tripoli) attached to the shank before staining. White diamond won't take off much of the stain, so I can ...

Re: Oskar shape
Why buff the stem independent of the stummel? Well, the reason is that I felt that I needed to buff the stem harder than the stummel to bring the shine out really well, and I wanted to avoid buffing the stain off of the sharp edges (I ended up doing that a bit anyway), so I decided to "pre buf...

Re: Oskar shape
That's a bit of stain in the chamber, I'm planing to remove it before sending the pipe to the owner. You are right in everything you say, the seam between the shank and stem is because I for some reason decided to buff the stem separetly, and I was super careful, but it wasn't enough I guess. thesre...

Oskar shape
Hello guys, I just finished this commission up. The shape is the "Oskar" shape designed by Tom Eltang for Chacom I believe. I think it turned out really good exept for a few minor things and it is definitely the best contrast stain I've done so far. Please tell me what you think! Critique ...

Re: Shaping tools
I always start of my shaping with a 5 inch hook-and-loop sanding disk chucked in my drill press, followed by hand files, followed by hand sanding. I guess the reason is that I find the precision increases whith every step so I end up with the smooth and precise result I'm looking for. Although, I wo...

preventing cracks in horn.
Hello everyone. I have some buffalo horn tips laying around to be used for extensions or inlays or something. But today when I looked at them I discovered some cracking in a few of them, both lengtwise and delamination between the "growth rings". The tips I have are raw and are sealed on t...

Re: First real rustication experiment
Nice rustication indeed, I have never liked rustications at all, but this one looks kinda "natural", which I like. Good job!

Re: bamboo billiard
Thanks alot guys! :) Very nice. My only comment is I'd have the top of the bowl perpendicular to the chamber instead of parallel with the shank. "Speedy" with this pipe doesn't work, imo. Yup, completely agree with you on that, I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the angle of th...

bamboo billiard
Hello everyone,
I just finished this one up. It started life as a lovat, but flaws in the shank quickly turned it into a classic billiard, and then into a bamboo billiard, the first bamboo pipe I've made.
Critique is welcome as always!

Re: Dublin. My best yet.
I think it's a nice pipe over all, and nice work with the churchwarden stem, those suckers are a bi*ch to make. The finish looks good, especially on the stem (from what I can see on the photos). I would also do something about the rim, probably round of the inner edge of the rim so the chamber edge ...

Hello everyone, Today I don't show a pipe I made myself but rather I pipe I just fixed up a little. It was given to me a while back along with a few pipe rapair boxes from my dads friend whos father was a pipesmoker and enthusiast all his life. What I did on the pipe was a new stem and then I just g...

Re: symetric something
IAWJ. My critique has to do with the way the chamber interrupts the lines of your panels. After the interruption, the lines of your panels follow the bevel on the rim on their journey towards the front of the bowl (away from the smoker). When you interrupt the lines of a panel, it should appear tha...
