Re: Drilling and turning video.

As far as I am aware no settings have changed, could other users confirm this problem so I can deal with it.
Yep, I'm getting the same thing

Re: Product liability insurance? Taxes? Costs of doing busin

I read a little of that pdf and it looks like insanity spilled over paper. Im not sure about the regulations here but I cant imagine them being enforceable here. Surely you jest. 35-years ago my partner and I were forced by the Codes Cops to tear out and re-frame two bedroom windows after the final...

Re: woods

Thank you very much W.Pastuch... :D It is nice to know all the woods ... and i think this kind of information is a must knowledge for any pipemaker...it is a subject also for new post... :) :) Although there are many woods which would likely be ultra toxic, I think you will find that there are some...

Re: Keeping Warm in your Shop

"I'm not saying anyone should shirk the system here. Why not? We've been allowing the government to make unilateral decisions for far too long now. Some laws make sense and are rational... others do not. If a person has his/her shop in an apartment building, or in his/her home in a crowded dev...

Re: Shop Made Tower Jaw Dimensions

Thanks red. I must admit that, this early in the morning, to my less than polished computer savvy mind, it does seem a bit complicated. Hopefully, after some breakfast and a bit more caffeine, the brain can walk me slowly through it, and I can make it work. Your chuck is beautiful! Did you build it ...

Re: Shop Made Tower Jaw Dimensions

I tried to post a larger photo but the board kept telling me it was too large, so I kept re-sizing until it was accepted. How do I go about posting it larger?

Re: Shop Made Tower Jaw Dimensions

Well, I've had to put my original plan on the back burner, and decided on another tack. It seems that I had not paid close enough attention to the Six "P's", and hadn't considered the hardness of the jaws which I had intended to drill and tap. :banghead: My dumb! Perhaps, in future I will ...

Re: Two Things...HELP

After rereading my original post, I believe I have been somewhat vague in describing what I was actually asking. What I was wondering was: Has anyone ever done a study on the smoking/burning dynamics of one chamber shape versus another? I've read so many opinions concerning how bowl diameter; depth;...

Two Things...HELP

Okay, I'm a woodworker of more years than I wish to realize, and I'm tooling up to try my hand at making pipes. I've got woodworking skills out the wazoo, but realize that each and every endeavor requires accumulation of different knowledge unique to the pursuit, therefore I have been practically li...

Re: HELP!! Blood pressure rising!

Thanks for the rapid responses. I've got a pile of new drill bits on the way from MacMaster. They're already at my local FedEx waiting to be delivered Monday Excellent.

Re: HELP!! Blood pressure rising!

Nate - Thank you! I guess my dyslexia must have kicked in sometime early this morning. I had to have been looking straight at that dozens of times, but it just didn't register. My wife tells me I have "Tomato Soup Syndrome". There's more tomato soup on the shelf than any other but all I se...

HELP!! Blood pressure rising!

I've spent the entire morning trying to find a source for 9/64", extra-length tapered drill bits for stem drilling. I've searched MacMaster-Carr; MSN Direct; Rockler; even every Mickey Mouse outfit I can think of. My head is spinning, my eyes are crossing, and I'm biting pencils in half. PLEASE...

Re: Shop Made Tower Jaw Dimensions

I've milled towers that are 2x2x3-1/2" high from some very hefty aluminum naval shaft material. I've milled slots that tight-fit down over the original jaws and sit on the two tallest flats, covering the face of the tallest jaw. I intend to drill and tap those flats 5/16-18, and bolt the towers...

Shop Made Tower Jaw Dimensions

I've been devouring the wealth of information on this forum for several weeks now, and finally joined today, so this is my first post. I've been a woodworker since I built my first downhill racer out of orange crates, lumber company scraps, and three different size wheels from a baby carriage, and t...
