Re: To drill with press drill...

My drill press is good, but maybe my drill bits not. What is the best drill bit for a drill press, PIMO, J. Alan, Ken Lamb ?

Re: To drill with press drill...

I have no lathe, maybe later. To drill a straight pipe, no problem, it's true. But for a bent pipe, the block moves under the pressure. And I drill before shaping !

To drill with press drill...

Hi friends,
To fix solidly the wooden block under the press drill, do you have an effective way? The vice of classic drill does not satisfy me. Could we use a chuck in 4 bits of wood lathe? Thanks for your opinions.

Thanks. It is of what I also thought. I have never used a fretsaw but I liked having your opinion.

Re: To drill a Reverse Calabash.

I made a RC whose secondary chamber is equal to the combustion chamber. It works well. I also did a CR which the secondary chamber is equal to 50% of the combustion chamber. It works well too and shape is more balanced.

Re: To drill a Reverse Calabash.

Thanks, Scottie and Jeremiah. Very interesting paper about R.C. and temepratures of smoking. I made 2 RC but I was not sure I drilled the secondary chamber correctly. Now I think that is about right. http://s1375.photobucket.com/user/Lag2/media/Pipes/DSC02240_zps378d80db.jpg.html?sort=3&o=9 http...

To drill a Reverse Calabash.

Hello Friends, To drill a Reverse calabash, we drill two chambers, a chamber of combustion and a chamber of condensation. But how to drill for the best the hole of smoke between the two chambers ? I saw R.C. drilled under the chamber of combustion. What is the best ? Thanks and all the best for all ...

Re: Drilling the airway correctly.

Ok I make a device mandrain ou vise steel manual with threaded rods to keep the heather block. But I will always do my very square block. There is less risk that it moves when drilling.

Re: Drilling the airway correctly.

I read your answers again.
It is easy enough for a straight pipe with a square block. But a curved pipe, or a not perfectly square block, it happens that it moves in the vise with the pressure. How to fix a not perfectly square block in the vise? Do you have any idea?

Thanks for this post very interresting.
The french pipemaker Pierre Morel says it is not possible to drill a pipe accurately without a lathe.

Re: Driftwood appearance.

I don't think this pipe in strawberry wood is driftwood.
Driftwood Wallenstein has a very gray patina.
if acid is used, I understand that the wood looks old and worm, but at least there are no worms or termites in!
