Re: BouchematBriar Question

Thanks for all of the input everybody! We'll see what happens, I'm hoping it never shows up. Yea, I almost always order from Steve, in this case I was trying to feel out another source for Algerian (love those craggy/gnarly blasts). I've read through some of those Yazid horror stories on the forum, ...

BouchematBriar Question

Hey folks, I hope the holidays are treating you all well. Has anybody dealt with BouchematBriar? Looking through some old threads, I assume it's Yazid? The reason I ask is that I recently sent a message through their website inquiring about a sample of their briar and they just responded by saying t...

Re: Buffing Wheel Finish

I'll second Bob Flexner's " Understanding Wood Finishes". It dispels a lot of the mystery to finishing and lays out some solid information to work with. Granted, repetition and practice is where you'll start seeing the results your after.

Re: Temporarily Attaching Bamboo

Okay, good to know. Have you noticed any residue left behind that affects the 'flushness' of the fit after you break the bond?

Re: Temporarily Attaching Bamboo

Ok, interesting, just a friction fit works for you guys. I've tried that before and had a problem with the bamboo shifting on occasion, even with a pretty tight mortise-tenon fit.

Temporarily Attaching Bamboo

Up to now when making a pipe with bamboo to stummel transition sans spacer, I've temporarily attached the bamboo to the stummel with a tiny drop of CA glue on the face of the bamboo. Once the stummel is ready for stain I carefully break the glue hold and commence. This works well most of the time bu...

Re: Blind side shaping

Practice is certainly key and like Wayne, I'll use the other side of the disc if needed. Just take it slow and keep a good grip on the block. Nice first pipe!

You can use a clamped churchwarden pipe cleaner loaded with with red then white compound. Just slide the stem up, down, works pretty well.

Re: Boxwood price

Hey Wayne,
I've bought from knappwoodworking on ebay before. They're not full logs but great quality old, dry, European boxwood. Here's a link to a listing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Boxwood-Genuine ... SweW5U4K-Q

Re: replacement nozzles / tips for Cyclone benchtop blaster?

Like Jeremiah, I also replaced my cyclone gun with the trigger fed gun from tptools.com. If you buy the replacement gun kit it comes with everything you need. ( http://www.tptools.com/USA-Cabinet-Gun-and-Pickup-Tube-Upgrade-Kit,2320.html?b=d*8026 ) If you've got the cash, a carbide nozzle will proba...

Re: Clamping pipe?

You can also use an adjustable reamer. The senior pipe reamer is a style that works. Just wrap some tape around the cutting edges so it doesn't mar the bowl and expand until tight. You can then clamp the handle in a vice and go to town.

Re: Freehand drilling

Yes, you can. It's the same principle as doing it on the lathe but your doing it vertically on the press. You can use a fuller counterbore to drill your mortise and face your shank at the same time. Or think of another way to face the shank like a plate of glass and sand paper.

Re: Precision Air Regulator

Oklahoma- there are a number of reasons why I'd like a more accurate regulator. Trever Talbert says it better than I could in one of his blogs, . "Any pipemaker who has spent some years cursing and wrestling with those spring-top knob regulators, that you have to crank and crank and crank, and ...

Re: Precision Air Regulator

Jeremiah, Currently I have a 1/2" air line running from my compressor about 20 ft to a moisture trap made of 1/2" piping that runs up and down 4 times with ball valves at the bottom for draining. This collects the majority of moisture in my system. From there an air line runs to a Parker 0...

Precision Air Regulator

Hey guys, I'm searching for a precise air regulator for my air compressor. One that allows you to really dial in the psi. I've got the kind with a knob on top, but need something a little more precise. I've seen pictures of them in other pipemaker's shops (Tyler, Trever), but can't seem to locate on...
