12" oak stem
I'm having large issues with this project. I'm trying to make a Bilbo type churchwarden with a 12" oak stem but I always run into the same problem. I had to drill 4 stems to get the drilling right and then steamed it to bend. I didn't steam for long enough so I applied more pressure and it snap...

Random and Marks thanks for the tips, I tried it, abandoned it but kept the T-shirt :) not a bad learning experience... Boy talk about a hijacked thread though :D I've only driven through Ohio, never spent much time in the state itself so forgive me for not participating in the discussion. ;) Cheers...

Shank extension preparation
I was just wondering if you guys could tell me what you prepare your shank extension and briar surface to before epoxying the extension to teh briar? Sand it down to 600 or just sand to 320 and epoxy it? any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bryan

Lucite/Acrylic Stems
Could anyone give me a few pointers on what to watch for when working with preformed Lucite stems? This is my first time using Lucite bits and I'm a bit curious as to how different they are compared to Vulcanite. I read that they easily melt when buffing too forceful. Do they need to be buffed and i...
