Re: New Lathe and Chuck
Personally I would want to shorten that arbour. With it hanging out like that if you get a crash or a bad catch then you could do some read damage to the headstock or bearings. Personally I prefer a direct mount chuck (all mine are) for accuracy and safety, I realise that isn't always practical but...

New Lathe and Chuck
I finally got my Precision Matthews PM1030V and Spindle mounted Chuck from Trent Rudat. I like the spindle mount clamped in the 3 jaw chuck. It will make changing out fast and simple.

Re: Finally, After 3 Years
If I had room for the PM1236 in my shop, that is the one I would have bought. My PM1030V is being delivered to me on Monday.

Re: Slack sander
Mine with the 1.5" motor pulley wheel to 6" pulley has my belt speed right about 446 sfpm. It's plenty slow enough not to cause speed friction problems with my fingers. The belts are nice and supple too. (Econaway Abrasives)

Re: Slack sander

Here is a link to photos of my shop in progress and stages of construction and evolution of my slack belt sander that I designed and fabricated myself. It started out as 2"x100" with two Idlers, but wound up as 2"x72" with one idler/tracking wheel. Belt speed is 466 fpm. I'm get...

Hello all
Hello everybody, I've been viewing this Forum for quite a while now, and figured it was time to pipe up, so to speak. I made my first tobacco pipe in 1973, and have made them on and off through the years just for my own amusement and gave them to friends. I decided early last year to begin pipemakin...
