Re: All Cherrywood pipe (stem too)

My pipes are different in that I make them entirely on the lathe so the bowl and stem are turned in two pieces then joined directly together. I drill a 10mm mortise directly into the bowl and fit the pipe stem, turned down to a 10mm tenon for a friction joint. Here is a crappy picture from my phone.

Re: Cherrywood

Yes, the material, cherry wood. Thanks for the clarification, I was unaware of the distinction.

Re: Alternative mouthpiece materials

I've started making all cherrywood pipes, including cherrywood mouthpieces. I turn the Cherry mouthpiece down to about a 1/4" ball on the end for the bite. I have been smoking mine for about 2 months, 1-2 times a week. I have given away several pipes to friends who also smoke about as frequentl...

Re: Cherrywood

I started making cherrywood pipes about 2 months ago and have been smoking the first one I made (successfully) about once to twice a week since then plus a camping trip where I pretty much smoked non-stop (that's what camping is all about). So I'm about 20-30 bowls in and I'm seeing a nice cake buil...

All Cherrywood pipe (stem too)

I recently started making pipes out of cherrywood as an experiment that turned into a consuming hobby. Cherrywood was readily available to me and felt safer to start working on than briar. I also decided to make the stem cherry as well w/o a mouthpiece. Although I have no real ambition of making and...

Re: New Pipe Maker wants critique

Here are the pics again a little bigger, limited to 256kb, not great quality though, even at the bigger size. I took the pics with my iphone. I would take a better pic with my Canon but I actually have given away all the pipes pictured! I'll have to make another "turd" and take a better pi...

Is there an easy way to tell how many words are in a post? Because if you counted all the words in my post by hand....bravo.

Re: New Pipe Maker wants critique

Thanks for your reply, I'm still in the "testing" phase, as are my friends who I've given pipes to. None of us smoke heavily so it will be a while before I have much "test data". But I'm not really interested in selling them and have no plans to sell them to any large extent in t...

Re: New Pipe Maker wants critique

Hmmm, not the response I was expecting, but in retrospect probably the response I should have expected. I acknowledged in my original post that my pipes were not traditional and born of a desire to make pipes but with the lack of time and patience to make them properly. I felt like I had made a uniq...

New Pipe Maker wants critique

****this is a long post, just skip to the "details" if you don't want to read my whole life story*** Just started making pipes a month ago. Through lots of googling, watching youtube videos, reading this forum, and trial and error I have a process that is consistently producing pipes that ...
