I have the same problem. After some compound applications I have less dust in the air but it still disturb me.
About saw - should it be metal or wood saw?

WOW, you've done nice work and if it works for you - use it.
I use a small candle.
PS Band saw, belt sander and other tools I keep in every room. Wife always yell when briar dust is found in the kitchen )))

As for me it could be rustication, not sandblast. I'll ask Sergey how he did it.

I am not expert, but I guess first pipe should be apple. From first picture you can find what I mean - back side. From other positions looks good.

I bought used Delta 1" belt sander for 85$ on eBay. Nice tool but shipping was expensive

I guess using belt sander will work better - you can make shank end more straight.

Without lathe it is not easy.

Shape looks good for me but it seems it's too "hairy".
