Fox Mini Lathe

Just picked up a nice little fox mini lathe: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cgi-bin/psProdDet.cgi/F46252.

I purchases mine off ebay for about half the price. Seems to be a nice little lathe. Anyone have any experience with this lathe? :?:

Help With Files

I recently purchased a set of files; however, they are many different shapes and sizes. Could someone explain why there are so many shapes? What files are best used for shaping the pipe?

Thanks for the help.

I'm Buying A Lathe! Choice of two, advice needed.

Well folks, I'm buying a lathe this week. :D I'm very excited about this! However, I have a choice of two models and can't decide between the two. The first model is a 'Jet JWL-1220 Woodturning Lathe'. ( http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Jet-JWL-1220-Woodturning-Lathe-724867.htm. ) The second model...

My Pimo 's 'Guide To Pipe Crafting At Home' has arrived!

Well, the book from Pimo arrived today. I have to say that I'm very excited. The shipping to the UK was VERY fast -- great service. Anyway, I know it may not be much; however, I see it as a beginning. I really want to have a go at this. My family don't have much money, so I can't really afford expen...

If I was to see this in a shop, I would certainly buy it! I'm not easy to please either, Lol.

I may not know much about pipe making; however, I really love this pipe!

Wow folks, thanks for all the input. I have a Dremel 400 with a flex shaft, so I guess I'm good to go! I have been reading the threads that contain information on the best bits for carving and engraving -- really helpful stuff. I'm trying to find out if it's possible to get a set with all the differ...

Cheers Frank,

I only purchased a Dremel a few weeks ago so I'm still getting used to its applications, Lol. I'm just trying to get a feel for the way things are done. The sooner I get my head together, the sooner I can take the plunge and start working on first pipe!

Carving Intricate Patterns

I have noticed that some pipes have very intricate carvings, for example, leaf patterns around the bowl or shank. I was wondering how these patterns are achieved, I’m guessing using some very fine files? I’m wondering if some form of chip carving may create a nice effect. Let me know what you think.

Supplies in the UK?

Does anyone know of any suppliers on Briar and other materials in the UK? I'm trying not to import: the shipping charges are tremendous!
