Wasn't planning on Automobile parts, or Anti-freeze but you know I have some former friends who are well for lack of a better term pot heads, they might just turn a muffler or a transmission into a pipe and stain it with anti-freeze. And as far as toxic materials to the pipe maker I'm not as concern...

For any pipe maker who is interested.
On my Myspace page I have a gallery of Famous Pipe Smokers which expands when I get the chance. Eventually I will transfer the data to a real website, which will kind of be everything you'd ever want to know about pipes, pipe tobaccos and the sort. In the future I'd like to do a who's who of pipe ma...

Toxic Materials
I had heard from another pipe maker that some materials can't be used because they are Toxic. Does anyone know of any such materials? I looked threw the Alternative Materials section and found nothing.

It is ashame that some pipe smokers don't give other materials a try to frequently, other than Corn cob. However corncobs are a bit of a tradition thing I guess, I have my Great-Grandfathers Corncob which has a hole burnt in the bottom but I won't part with it since it was his and is circa 1860 or 1...

Thank Kurt I'll remember those suggestions. Around my area Cherry Wood, and a few other fruit woods are easy to get, So many people out in my area are fruit farmers. As for a market for them I am not all to sure, I've heard of people selling some of them, and I know Kirk Bosi at http://www.Bosipipes...

The one thing that I would add is, if you don’t want to use brier right away then at least use a hard wood of some kind. Pine is so soft it’s going to be hard to get any kind of lasting finnish on it. Not to mention the taste when smoked. Also soft wood carves different than hard woods and so if yo...

Hey Nate, For once I got some decent advice. Just recently I bought two Pipes from Pavel Hap, they are short pipes minus the stem like this one, However his stems were a good three to three and one half inches long. They have a wonderful feel to them, and the shank is an inch roughly. The one might ...

Hey Alan, Glad to hear your getting a garage to work out of. I'll remember the part about smiling. I'm already polite as to times of days I make noise, so that shouldn't be a problem. Good luck in moving everything. Movings always a pain but can be something to look forward to as well. Take care. ~A...

By the way I really don't mind critiques. Harsh is okay, but I hope it is taken into accord the limited resources I had at hand to make it. Other than that blast it. I do wonder what is thought about the shape. It isn't common thats for sure. But is it to blocky? Would you attempt a shape like this?...

Thank you everyone for all the advice, I think I have a good idea how to set up shop now. I never expected so much help. The answers came as I had hoped, I didn't want specifics, and the answers were right on. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I know I have much to learn, but through determination I ...
