Re: Smelly Stem
Did the smell ever go away? I have a particularly stinky NYH red-black cumberland stem that i just finished. I have used these rods before, infact i have another finished stem from a few weeks ago, and it does not have the smell (and i dont remember it having it when it was finished). It is the same...

Re: Another Billiard
It is a valid concern that the wood will swell and then shrink, leaving the stem a few thousands proud. There are several solutions. 1) don't wet sand- as Sasquatch says , sandpaper is cheap, change it more often 2) use a fine file to bring the stem down after the wood dries, resand 3) leave it alo...

Re: Another Billiard
It looks like you have a rather large pot shape going on there Next time taper the top 1/3 down and give it a 2 deg. cant good attempt Will try to taper down the top of the next one - not exactly sure what you mean by giving it a 2 deg though You have rounded off the stem at the shank face. This co...

Short Billiard
I debated whether or not to post this or not, since it isnt much of an improvement over my last one. But i figured why not? Not like this is a hugely active board. Had a small block of briar and ended up having to make it even smaller, so the stummel to stem proportion is way off. Pipe also doesnt w...
Re: Pot
Probably would have been a good idea to learn about the shape before trying to make one... I wanted to use that stem(its pre-formed) and i didnt think it would work on a billiard. So i figured a pot would be a pretty simple shape to go with. Ah well Definitely know what you mean about how the shank ...
Re: Pot
Yeah i think i sanded too much of the finish off - It looked blotchy to me at first and then i ended up making it worse by sanding too much off and not evenly enough. I may have used too little shellac - i'm not sure. I just wanted to use enough to make it shiny and not have any build up I'll defina...
