Re: Doug Finlay invented a new shape
With the stem off, you can twist a pipe cleaner into the chamber. The extra drag and curvature of the stem and shank make it nearly impossible to twist the cleaner after inserting. The second one in this series will pass a churchwarden cleaner (thin) with a twist at the last turn.

Re: Doug Finlay invented a new shape
Doc, it does not pass all the way into the bowl. It does pass all the way to just under it, but won't make that last turn upward. I'm working on a remedy for future iterations though.

Jeez George, your photos always look way better than mine. Glad the inaugural smoke went well and best wishes for many more.

Another Magnum'ish Pipe
After seeing a pipe that George "LatakiaLover" had posted on another forum, I thought I would give something similar a try. L = 8.50/21.59cm BH = 2.10/5.33cm BW = 1.54/3.91cm CH = .840/2.13cm CD = 1.85/4.7cm WT = 1.9oz/54g https://i.postimg.cc/0QN8XTvt/Demi-Mag1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/90...

Re: Magnum Egg
Haven't gotten back to this yet, may get to it later today. Yes Wayne, it can be a little nerve wracking for sure, especially on a chunk of rubber this long/thick. I'd rather sneak up on it than have an oops too much

Re: Slot Cutting
If you can get the feel for the sidecutting bits, you can do a funnel from the 1/16 pilot hole to filing and sanding the slot then polishing in about 10 minutes. I do use the dremel #199 saw to cut initial slot also.

Re: Magnum Egg
Thanks gentlemen, I'll work on that bottom side. Might be a day or 2, lathe motor went south in the middle of a stem project, parts due in today, changing the old 1940s Logan over to a variable speed with a VFD. Speed changes will be a breeze now.

Re: Magnum Egg
Thanks for the replies guys. As I said earlier, and maybe I didn't make it clear, I didn't want it to look like a big pipe, should have reworded it to say I didn't want the bowl height to be obvious. Yes I could have made one with a slimmed down shank and stem, but that is not what I was going for, ...

Re: Magnum Egg
Hey Sas, I can see going that direction also, but, for the sake of lighthearted argument. The idea was for you not to be able to tell from a pic how large it is without a visual aide (hence the quarter). If you go back to the first picture and visualize this being a 5 1/2" /14cm long pipe, do y...

A couple of firsts in this one for me, first Bulldog and first diamond taper stem, it's also a military mount (not my first time).

I'm still in, I have a couple completed and should be finishing up on the last one tonight or tomorrow unless I goof up on it. Then I'll post the one I think turned out best.

Re: What to look for in a used Foredom
I'll chime in here, I ended up getting a TX model with the "good" metal foot pedal.(before George told me I should get an LX) It will go slow enough and has enough torque to do what is needed. I cannot attest to what the SR will do. I picked up the TX very cheap, brand new, in the box a ye...
