Staining stem inserts
Just another newb question; when staining a wood insert on an ebonite stem, is there any concern about getting stain on the ebonite? I don't know whether the dye would leave any noticable traces on the ebonite or if it just buffs away....? I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt to apply it as carefully as po...

It's still better to shorten the tenon. Yeah, I gathered this fact about 20 seconds after I'd tried it my way.... But now I know better and will shorten my tenons in the future. Thanks to all for the replies. I'll let you know how it works when I figure out what I'm gonna do and when I can shake th...

I'm working on my first pipe (still). After sending quite a few innocent blocks of cherry and briar to their respective makers, I've got something that I'm pretty happy with. As I was making the stem, I used a slightly too long piece of delrin for the tenon. Since I had faced and beveled said delrin...

I think it's very cool rustication! I'm with Sasquatch; kinda like alligator belly or snakeskin. I can't abide the white stem though....

Re: morta
where is there a good place to buy morta wood? been loving some of the pipes i've seen in the gallery and wanted to give it a try myself. The only place I've ever seen it for sale is occasionally on eBay. Most of the time it's a seller from the UK, so it ends up being really expensive because the a...

Does anyone know if this is still being produced? I read some reviews and was excited to try it, but I can't find it in stock anywhere. I cannot tell if it just sells out fast or what..... thanks!

Re: Rod size
In all seriousness, the 1/2" rod that Tim sells is great for churchwardens. But for most other pipes, it comes up... short. It's been great for practice, since it made my initial screwups not-so-costly; but since I (stupidly) made the shank the same diameter as the stem AFTER drilling ...

Welp, I've got a tin of MacBaren 'Chocolate and Honey' with 3 or 4 bowls'worth missing if anyone's interested in trying it. Not for me. So if you like it, or were curious about trying it, I'd give it up for simple trade; maybe a little baggie or two of something you've got around. Thanks EDIT: Apolo...
