Re: Number Two

Great smoking pipe, George!
You are a good master. There is nothing to find fault with, except for one detail. And what about the diameter of the chimney in the stem? Not too small?
With all respect, Andrey

Thanks Todd! I'm not really sure if this particular pipe is the best, but it is definitely among the best. There were other pipes besides her. https://d.radikal.ru/d42/2101/7a/ab88aa41a2bf.jpg https://b.radikal.ru/b20/2101/a6/6b0883aa7026.jpg https://c.radikal.ru/c03/2101/c3/9a66d072b96c.jpg https:/...

Bulldog freehand

For a long time I have not shown anything here, because most of the participants see my pipes on pipesmokersden. But maybe there is someone who does not visit this site It's a bulldog freehand https://a.radikal.ru/a37/2102/6c/8ad94b894b45.jpg https://a.radikal.ru/a16/2102/71/1bc1e5772a86.jpg https:/...

Re: Pipe #5 First Hand Cut Stem

Not bad at all for the fifth pipe. Maybe you should pay a little more attention to the joint between the shank and the bowl. In my opinion, the docking place should be drawn more clearly, now it is somewhat smeared.

Re: My first billiard

For this work, there is nothing to criticize you for. The junction line between the shank and the bowl could have been better drawn. Everything else is a matter of taste and personal preference.

Re: Canted Rhodesian?

I don't think a band saw will help. I have a drilling machine that has a two-axis vise. I mill the two surfaces of the briar block in parallel. These surfaces are then used to clamp the block in a two-jaw chuck on a lathe. But that's not all. I choose from these two planes one which is the reference...

Re: Canted Rhodesian?

There are no complaints about the round shape of the bowl. I talked about this little flaw. If you place a ruler in the center of the tobacco camera in this photo, you will see that the shank goes about - 1.5 mm to the right. https://d.radikal.ru/d00/2101/7c/9a04d40d9413.jpg If you look at the next ...

Re: Billiard #2

I agree with JMG you did not get a billiard, but rather a pot. Billiards is a classic - a correct billiard should have a shank length equal to the height of the bowl. The angle between the tobacco chamber and the smoke duct should be 93 degrees. The bowl should tilt slightly forward. You managed to ...

Re: Canted Rhodesian?

You've got a pretty interesting pipe. The lack of symmetry in the bowl is obvious, and it may not be there either on the stem. You probably do not have a lathe and I understand the problems associated with its absence. The stage of marking on the briar of the future smoking pipe must be done as accu...

Re: First foray into pipemaking.

Sandpaper of various grain sizes from 80 to 1000 is the best tool for the beginner pipe cutter. The paper can be glued with double-sided tape to a metal plate and get a universal tool for cutting pipes. I myself started with this.

Re: Would like a Critique Of This Bent Dublin With Hand Turned Acrylic Stem

For me, the bowl remains disproportionately high. It is difficult to give advice without knowing the actual dimensions of the smoking pipe. I agree with Seamonster. It is difficult to come up with a more correct solution. I would probably try to visually lengthen the shank, setting an accent made of...

Re: Would like a Critique Of This Bent Dublin With Hand Turned Acrylic Stem

In the pipe industry, there are no general recipes for all forms of smoking pipes. Almost every form has its own individual characteristics. The term "Stummels" in Russia means the wooden part of the smoking pipe. There are tubular forms in which the stem is noticeably longer than "St...

Re: Would like a Critique Of This Bent Dublin With Hand Turned Acrylic Stem

I don’t even know what I’m missing in this smoking pipe. In my opinion, it looks more like an undersized Magnum than Dublin. You have good surface finish of the briar, but the grain is still hidden under the paint. A little more contrasting coloring on this pipe could be beneficial. I do not like pi...

Re: Here Is A Straight Dublin With A Bent Stem For Your Critique

I don’t know for sure, the photo is not very clear. But there is a complete feeling that the bottom of the tobacco chamber is drilled lower than the exit of the smoke channel into the tobacco chamber. In Russia, such drilling of the holes in the tobacco chamber and smoke channel is considered unacce...

A very interesting shape of a smoking pipe. It is not often used by pipe cutters. Tyler you are right, your friendly criticism is very accurate and fair. Mottled is the 8-swirled. (Left in picture) Marbled is the one swirled. (Right in picture) Mottled gives a more patchy pattern and marbled more smooth transitions as seen on the outside of the rods. Thanks! Realized that he was a fool. I ordered not what I needed. But SEM could, on its website. giv...
