Re: Partially Rusticated Poker

Thank you both for the feedback. Thanks for the stem tips, I will def get that file and watch those vids. While I do have a tenon turning tool, I just turned this tenon, I needed to sand it down more. Just turned another and sanded the marks out and went slower while turning. I enjoy turning it more...

Partially Rusticated Poker

Happy Monday Y'all! Please find below images of my 4th pipe and my first poker. I value lightweight pipes and this is a great workshop pipe weighing in at 37g. My stem is still rough, I only filed it, yesterday, working on my next pipe I tried my new belt sander for stem shaping and got some great r...

Re: TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 4 WIP

Sir_Saarton,

So I just checked an Ashton that I have and LOVE, and the vulcanite tenon wall is only 1.13 mm, mine in theory should have 1.98.

Great call out though, keep getting me to check things that I normally wouldn't and I appreciate it.

Have a great Friday amigo!

Re: TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 4 WIP

Sir_Saartan,

I will be turning my own ebonite stem. Thanks for the callout, I will double check some tenons on pipes I have bought from makers for some reference.

Thanks!

Re: I failed at making a pipe

Sir_Sartaan, Def not as bad as you made it seem haha. Solid pipe amigo, you know that I am a COMPLETE beginner so please take my comments with that large grain of salt. The tobacco chamber is a bit off center from a top view (in pic 4) Also where the shank meets the bowl (in pic 2) isn't symmetrical...

TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 4 WIP

Good afternoon everyone, After posting some pictures of pipes that I have worked on. I'm going to try a classic poker and have drew it up on the computer with dimensions so that I can get some feedback on that before starting. As a beginner any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. I want to make...

Re: TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 2

Odissey, For full visibility, the holes are 5/32" in the stummel, 5/16" fit for the tenon into the shank. Then a tapered 5/32" down to a 1/16" for the opening at the stem. Also I have PIMO's book but didn't see where the bite and button sizes were specifically called out. Where i...

Re: TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 3 WIP

Sir_Saartan,

That's ok though amigo, at least you learned 10 things to look out for the next time. I'd see like to see where you are at, everyone is out to help so at the very least you'll grow.

Re: TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 3 WIP

That is some solid feedback. I have already received that from a buddy on Instagram and my next pipe will definitely either be a billiard or a poker. Also very true about changing my idea halfway through. Looking forward to checking out your pipes and thank you for the feedback.

Re: TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 1

I know the bowl is slightly canted, I was going to try that with a bent stem to give it a bit of movement, but had issues with my first tenon and it did not work out for this pipe.

TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 3 WIP

So I wanted to try a pipe inspired by Von Erck, lol this hardly does it justice, but just so you know where I began. Started with a "V" shape on the block but smoothed the bowl exterior on a whim while shaping. Wasn't happy with the basic 'freehand' shape and cut the bottom to make it sit....

TheGingerPiper Pipe No. 2

This is my second pipe from scratch. I tried to do a smooth bent brandy. The briar ended up being full of knots, so I did my first rustication. Stain came out to dark, tried to work it a bit. Things I know I botched: -the draft hole in the bowl needed to be offset lower -the stem funnel is rough, al...
