Haha, I know! I guess I just have to bite the bullet and try to find a good way to do it without ruining the rim.

Re: The pipe that got a second chance
Great feedback as always Sasquatch. Big thanks [emoji106]
The line created by the reflection is really interesting and definently creates a more classic shape. Maby something to explore in the future. I won’t give this pipe a third chance thou [emoji6]

Re: My fourth pipe, completed. An attempt at a Billiard.
For being the fourth pipe you did a good job. There is a lot of potential in removing some of the taper and transition from shank to bowl. That, to me, is one of the hardest parts to get just right on a billiard [emoji38] Oh. And I can also see some rounding in the transition between the shank and t...

The pipe that got a second chance
This is a pipe I finished a couple of months ago. After that it sat in my pile (yes, they’re piling up awaiting my stamp [emoji38]) and as time went I became less and less happy about the result. Stain was a bit off, contrast didn’t pop and I found some uneven spots and bad lines that slipped throug...

Re: Fourth billiard
Great feedback wdteipen [emoji106] I’ve definently noticed changes in the tenon fit after finishing. I’ve since tried leaving briar for the mortises and the fit is consistent. Looking at the pipes with long horn extensions I guess this is a whole other issue. Is it better to use military mount toget...

Re: Number Two
Beautiful pipe. Bummer with the funnel issues. Risky game trying to fix it when everything else is done.
I’d love a little more meat on the back of the bowl. Maby a touch of Eltang-ish cutty bump. Cool inlay [emoji106]

Re: Fourth billiard
Wow. Thanks for the great feedback guys! It is invaluable to get honest feedback from other pipe makers and it definently helps me with improving my work. After some googling I agree that brandy is a better match. Pipe shapes are hard and I now fully understand why billiards are recommended for impr...

Fourth billiard
Following the recommendation to make billiards to improve as a beginner I’ve began to throw one in between every other pipe or so. This is my fourth one and the best one yet. As always I try to implement something new to me in every pipe. This time using acrylic (polyester) as an extension together ...

Re: Who is good for briar right now (UK)
Just received my order from Bouchemat Briar, and I don’t have anything negative to say. I messaged Mohammad on Facebook, ordered on the website and then messaged him that I had placed an order. Two weeks later the package was delivered by DHL and a couple of hours later he messaged me regarding paym...

Re: My first billiard
Too bad about that nasty gash, what a huge one. Yea it sucks. Makes it a bit hard to keep focusing at doing your best when you know you’re just going to keep the pipe to yourself [emoji846] At least it gives me the possibility to do some testing with filling techniques. This time water glass combin...

Re: My first billiard
I would have made the bottom line from shank to bowl straight (with no dip downward), removed more material at the shank/bowl junction and would have sanded those scratches off the left side of the bowl before staining. Also, that pit will burn through eventually. That said, this is a nice pipe. Ke...

50/50 Carnuba/Beeswax?
I recently ordered a buffing kit for pipe making and in addition to the ordinary carnuba I got a bar of 50% carnuba and 50% beeswax. Is there any use cases for this for briar pipes? I can see a use for it when touching up meershaum pipes, but nothing more than that [emoji846] Skickat från min iPhone...

My first billiard
I absolutely get the feedback you give to many new pipe makers; that they should start with classic shapes. So, gentlemen, it’s time to critique my first billiard [emoji846] Length: 131mm/5.17” Height: 53mm/2.12” Width: 39mm/1.5” Chamber depth: 45mm/1.8” Chamber width: 19mm Est. weight: 50gr As you ...

Great feedback and guidance [emoji106]
Never thought that much about the lengthwise sanding issues. I’ll definently avoid it in the future.
Thank you!

Re: Canted Rhodesian?
Thanks for the clarification. I see it now [emoji106]
Yea, making the sides parallel with each other has been a challenge without a band saw. I’ve got one of those 2-jaw chucks from Rawkrafted and that alleviates the problem quite a bit, but not always enough.

Re: Canted Rhodesian?
You've got a pretty interesting pipe. The lack of symmetry in the bowl is obvious, and it may not be there either on the stem. You probably do not have a lathe and I understand the problems associated with its absence. The stage of marking on the briar of the future smoking pipe must be done as acc...

First foray into pipemaking.
I can’t even imagine hand carving a whole pipe from briar using only a knife. My hands hurt just by the regular filing and sanding :D Being quite the beginner at pipe making my best tip is to remove more material than you think. A bit scary, yes, but as long as you’re not thinning the walls too much...

Canted Rhodesian?
Sorry if I’m a bit spammy with my pipes, but I feel like this is the best place to get real feedback instead of only yaysayers (not that thats not nice, but it isn’t very constructive). Ok, so the plan for this pipe was initially to make a Bodog kind of shape, but due to poor brain activity and lack...

Re: Danish bent egg
I think its a really nice 4th pipe. I love the cumberland and your finish is nice. That being said, I think there are a couple of things to work on for future pieces like this. In the 5th pic, there appears to be some asymmetry on the right (smoker's left) side of the shank. Also, the shank could b...

Wow. Thank you so much for the great feedback and kind words [mention]LatakiaLover [/mention] [emoji106] Yes its like my fourth finished pipe. I’ve never seen the silver version of the 135, and looking at both that version and the standard model that I had in mind https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/...
