Thank you Undershade. This feedback is extremely helpful. I'll utilize these suggestions on #6 and work on taking better photos for the next critique. Thanks again!

Re: Pipe #5 First Hand Cut Stem

… Also. If there are issues that it's not too late to fix. Please feel free to share those as well. I'm willing to do more work even if that means sanding off the stain and finishing everything again. Thank you.

Pipe #5 First Hand Cut Stem

Pipe #5. First "successful" hand cut stem. I was going for a billiard here. This one was tough and I have to say I'm not ecstatic about the final product. I can see issues including the backwards cant, pinched look at bowl/shank, roughness inside the slot as well as a stem shank gap…I was ...

Re: First 2 Pipes

Pipe 2 The Bad: • Bad stem shank fit • Bowl out of round • Bowl uneven • Shaping issues in general. I can specifically see these where the shank meets the stem and on the bottom of the pipe. • Bad finish on stummel and stem after buffing • Cut mark on bowl • Not happy with the finish. I guess it’s l...

First 2 Pipes

Subject: First 2 pipes Hi Everyone! Brand new pipe maker here. I just finished my first two. The first is the rusticated piece. The second is maple wood. There’s A TON wrong with both pipes, though I think the second piece is actually smokable. 😊 The first I would have thrown away early on, but I wa...

Re: New lathe. Size matters? - Please help!

Thanks Seamonater. Very helpful. This is all brand new to me the pipe I'm currently working on is the most work with tools I've ever done. Lol. Every 1 step for you guys is 4 steps and several mistakes for me. I'm loving it though:). Sorry if my questions seem especially ignorant.

Re: New lathe. Size matters? - Please help!

Thanks. That was extremely helpful. There's actually some decent pricing on the g4000 right now. What specific tooling would I need right away to do everything? Im assuming quick change tool post, carbide bits, chuck and jaws and drill chuck? Am I missing anything? I like the Grizzlt because it seem...

Re: New lathe. Size matters? - Please help!

Thanks for the responses guys. Definitely two strong endorsements for metal lathes. Are you turning stumbles on your lathes? Under shade. You mentioned your Grizzlyg4000 being a game changer. What was it a game changer from? Were you on a wooden lathe previously and once you switched you found you c...

New lathe. Size matters? - Please help!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forum so if the question I'm asking has already been asked a million times I apologize in advance. I've decided to pick up a lathe this week... I'm 99% sure I'm going with a wood lathe. This because of space, price and because I think the only thing that will be hard to d...
