The carving is beautiful. Just masterful. I am curious, how many hours does it take to carve one of those? Thanks for showing them here.

I haven't turned any lucite stems in over a year, but I have been turning a lot of acrylics for tampers recently. Like Kurt, I turn the square blocks fast and use freshly ground chisels. I like to round the block with a very sharp 1" gouge. Once you get the hang of it, you can go pretty fast. I...

I've got the Jet Mini. But, I can remember, about four years ago, looking at both the Delta and the Jet. I think the tightening handles on the Jet were a little beefier. The Jet usually costs more than the Delta, but, the Jet was on sale for about the same price. Plus I have had a lot more experienc...

I went by your table at the Richmond show. I can see why your pipes sell so quickly! You had some nice pipes there. I hope to see you again at another show.

Steve: I just posted something on your thread in the P&T forum. Anyway, I was at the Richmond show. I came by and met you, and looked at your work. I can say these pictures don't do justice compared to the real thing. Your pipes are beautiful! Your skill level is very high. I very much liked the...

WOW! They are beautiful. Each one is a little gem. I especially like the one with plateau on the bottom. The grain looks great. Your workmanship appears flawless.

Hi Scott. Thank you for the compliment! Coming from a carver of your skill, means a lot to me. I say go for it. For you, those tampers should not be hard at all. I have seen that mod. available from different sources. I keep thinking I'll spring for one, but I just keep putting it off. I drill-press...

To anybody reading this that is new to turning on a wood lathe, Do Not try to turn aluminum on your lathe! Kurt- Yes, I turn it on my Jet Mini lathe. I use 1/2" round aluminum stock. I run the lathe at 1240 rpm. I remove the bulk of the aluminum with a very sharp 1/2" straight skew chisel....

Hi Bryan and Kurt. I am new to this forum. I have been carving pipes for a few years as a hobby. I have been turning wood for many years. This thread caught my interest because I just took a photo of my Oneway Talon Chuck with my Oneway Spigot Jaws installed. I also make tampers. This photo shows th...
