Very nice work Enzo!!
Prato, Tuscany is a place I can only dream of. What a joy it would be to be there sipping a caffè coretto and having a nice pipe bowl right now.

Welcome aqualong. This forum is a great resource for pipe makers. Enjoy your stay. I have been smoking pipes for 25 years and making them for only a few. Making a pipe is very relaxing to me. Often a pipe will take me 10 to 20 hours to make because I spend a lot of time smoking and thinking during t...

Last night I did a small experiment with a few pipe bowls and pieces of wood I had did an oil treatment on. I used a small microwave oven in my shop to heat them and wiped off any oil that came to the surface. At first I tested a small chunk of cherry wood, running the microwave on high for 5 or 10 ...

I have not been able to get all of the oil to dry or to expel every bit of excess oil.

Has anyone here mastered the drying of an oil cured pipe?

I have only done a few pipes and tampers in oil. Truly experimental and not perfected in any way by me. It's easy enough to fill a pot with a suitable oil, heat a piece of wood in it and let it soak for a day or more. Once you pull out the wood you have an oil soaked chunk of wood that needs the exc...

Cracking or checking. The wood I am using seems stable. The Osage is about 15 or more years old and came from trees growing in a poor location. The 3 to 4 inch Diameter branches have 80+ rings in them making a very tight grain. There are some cracks in the wood from drying but I just spit the wood o...

I have a few epoxy glues so 'll give it a try. I added some ridges to the tenon and mortise to help it stay in forever I hope.

Glue to attach a wood stem to a bowl.

I have been messing with oil curing. Currently I have a pipe almost complete on the bench. The bowl is Osage Orange and the stem is Elm with a vulcanite Lovat bit. Both pieces of wood are oil cured. The tenon on the wood stem is only a quarter of an inch where it is fitted to the bowl. There is very...
