Re: Just an offer...

You are absolutely, totally, completely, and utter crazy, JMG. In the best possible way. I'm starting to think you're not only a modern-day Indiana Jones, but would probably have kicked his ass. LMAO!!! That's the thought that came to my mind this past year reading about the work he was doing...

Re: Bent horn attempt

I'm curious, what did you drill the tobacco chamber with? It looks to have some pretty good gouges in it.

Re: Le Morta d'Author / Charge Of The Light Morta Author Bri

If I may ask, what is the tool and the technique for achieving that ringed layered look? Senatorv posted one with much deeper rings last year and I've tried and failed, at the expense of a nice bit of briar, to duplicate this texture. It's sandblasted. The softer wood is removed by blasting while t...

Re: New house, new shop!

I gotcha. Maybe I should throw a block under mine :D Once you get into a couple of projects, you'll realize what needs to be adjusted, moved, etc. Atleast that's what happens with me.

Re: Aluminum as ring?

There are many different alloys of aluminum, and their characteristics are DRAMATICALLY different. So, yes, it can work well, but it can also create problems during fabrication and in the final result. Depends on the type being used. For pipes, the best type is known as the "architectural"...

Aluminum as ring?

Maybe I just haven't looked enough, but I don't believe I've seen aluminum rings or bands on stem or shanks. Is there a specific reason for this? Or have I just not seen it? I'd like to add some rings to my shanks but also keep costs down, atleast for now.

Re: Pipe #10, Dublin

I don't feel I'm qualified to give advice on pipes, since I'm so new at it. But, I will say for me, I prefer a nice sharp crisp rim to the bowl on a Dublin, but again, that's just me. I like your shank to bowl transition, as I tend to struggle a little in that area. I also like your stem "step ...

Re: Addressing tearout??

The trick with sanding out tearout like this, is it can take some fairly aggressive sanding- the dowel technique works alright for clean-up sanding in the chamber, but it's a tough way to remove that much tearout. After I finish drilling my pipes, I always go to the dremel, and insert a flap of 120...
