Re: Non-Vertical Bowls ...

Thanks, guys. I have learned something, I think, which is that much of the problems I thought might exist maybe don't, but if they do they can be alleviated by the angle and shape of the rim ... I am emboldened to try a tilted bowl, but I think I will start with a cutty shape since I am artistically...

Non-Vertical Bowls ...

I am a new pipemaker who has benefited greatly from this website (and will be relying upon it even more heavily since I just got my first lathe). In my first pipes, I have been making an effort to end up with a tobacco chamber that is roughly vertical when smoked, whether the pipe is bent or otherwi...

Re: Lathe Chucks

Just for the record, if anyone else is outfitting a lathe, I ended up buying this when I found out you can get the correct thread adapter at oneway for $25. So, I spent about 240 total and ended up with the oneway chuck and four sets of jaws (3 came with the home depot clearance kit + tower jaws and...

Re: Lathe Chucks

Is this the same oneway chuck that is frequently recommended on this site? If so, it looks like a good deal. I know I would still need the tower jaws. Thanks! http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100375630&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&...

Re: Pipe Senatorov

I agree. I love nearly all of the pipes posted here, especially the last one. Also, your golden contrast stain shown on some of these is really first rate.

Best regards,

Nick, I was just following the advice here as far as using the tubing:

Re: Another Newbie Here, With Pictures

Thanks, guys. I am encouraged enough by your replies to keep trying. I suspect the joins would be a lot easier with a lathe so I am even now coming up with some justifications for the expense. As far as the bamboo shank goes, do you use the 5/32 interior diameter stainless steel? I used that here bu...

Another Newbie Here, With Pictures

Gentlemen, newbie here with many thanks for your forum and willingness to share your craft. I have only been smoking pipes for a year or so, but I quickly discovered that handmade pipes were the best and, in a testament to how my mind works, thought "hey, I can do that." Whether I can or n...
