Re: slow start to the year but finally finished one up

Thanks Nate and Andrew! So, how's the weather on the other side of the mountains? Typical Puget Sound weather. Cold but not freezing, fog in the mornings, rains on and off until spring, with sun breaks mixed in. Saturday was great, warm and sunny, played football at the park with my sons, good stuff...

Re: slow start to the year but finally finished one up

I agree with the comments on the Rhodesian. That stummel is well shaped. The very sharp curve to the saddle never works for me personally. Thanks for the thoughts Charl, I appreciate it. I think the saddle 90 degree verse sloped\curved is a personal taste thing. I know a few others here do not like...

Re: slow start to the year but finally finished one up

Thanks N.Burnsworth These pipes clearly show that you're listening to good advice! :) Just one thing, and maybe I'm the only person in the world who thinks that, but the rustication is awful. To my eye it kills the good job you've done on the shape, it instantly shouts "amateur" because of...

slow start to the year but finally finished one up

Hey all, Since my day job has me locked in front of a PC a whole bunch of hours every day I am not on any forums and just barely on social media, so this is just my way of saying howdy to all you pipe makers... or I think no one, save my little mailing list, would know I exist. No critiques requeste...

Re: Yeti Pipe #50 Braxton

Micah,

This is not the style of pipe I usually like, but I really like this pipe a lot. So in my mind that says tons of good stuff. Not that I am gonna type it all out for you or anything though ;)

Re: Dust Collection Vs. Dust Expulsion

That sounds like fun :filth-n-foul: I had to dig irrigation trenches in frozen clay in Colorado a long while back, and eventually resorted to renting a ditch witch, that still struggled to do the job. I don't envy you, but I wish you the best! Bill I did the same thing when I ran electric to my sho...

Re: Dust Collection Vs. Dust Expulsion

This post makes me sick. You guys are whining about 29 degrees?! I will remind you that Montana was recently the coldest place on earth with -51 wind chill. My shop hit a solid -20, and I sanded right on through it! Yessir I did! Grump. Yeti yeah, I'm a wimp about it... It's been in the 20's here a...

Re: Dust Collection Vs. Dust Expulsion

:D I practice dust expulsion. It's a highly technical setup that requires an open garage door and a high powered fan. It's 31 degrees outside you jerk ;) It's 85 degrees outside you jerk! I sure wish it was that warm here. Went out to my shop to try to sneak in a couple hours last night and i...

Re: Larger Diameter Acrylics?

Hey Walt, I haven't much of a cue about this but folks say brindle is the same stuff bowling balls are made of - you prolly know if that is correct or not? If it's correct though; you can get used bowling balls cheap and cut a chunk out to turn... they have all sorts of patterns in bowling balls now...

Re: Intent verse Result

Thanks for the kind comments on this pipe everyone, I appreciate your thoughts. Honestly I think that would be a fascinating debate , what's that 8 we are up to now? :D It's something I could spend a lot of time thinking on, when I am in the shop. BTW - The Seattle opera did the Barber of Seville ab...

Re: Sandblasting

Don't ya just love it?? I bet they make a lot of money off permits down at the county/city office ;) No doubt, Everything is legal here so long as you pay up. Even the HOV lanes on the highway you can drive in solo - so long as you buy a pass! billiard. if you have 220 connection for a dryer, say, ...

Re: Intent verse Result

Predictably, I like that pipe a lot, Bill. Going in to make a pipe and grabbing a block and getting THAT EXACT pipe with no issues, no flaws, no oopsies..... it's pretty rare. It's what you wind up with when you do hit that flaw or miss a cut or whatever that counts. This is why making 20 identical...

Re: Sandblasting

my city\county\state is a little different.. recreational usage of marijuana is perfectly legal, so is gay marriage (just examples, I'm not being political at all) but if I put a breaker box up, on my own, in my garage they will likely tar and feather me :)

Re: Sandblasting

I've been looking at Compressors and saving up for awhile - I just got a quote though and to get 220 to my shop = $2500... Ugh, that's a lot of rusticated pipes! Maybe I get there someday though :) If you can find someplace else to set up just the blasting close to your electric box you can save $2...

Re: Dust Collection Vs. Dust Expulsion

There are a lot of conversations about dust collection, but I don't recall seeing one about dust expulsion I figured I'd start one. Baseball cards are great collectibles and coins are nice, but who wants to collect dust??? You just throw it away anyway. :D I practice dust expulsion. It's a highly t...

Intent verse Result

Intent verse results is something to ponder. I hope Ernie doesn't mind me quoting him (a bit out of context) here. We cannot judge a pipe by the intentions behind it. If we did, then every newbie pipe on this forum would sell for what a Former/Toku/TJ pipe (or whatever pipe they were trying to emula...
