There's still a lot of folks in need from the flood, tho. Todd had to wear floaties for a coupla days and Jody's s...

Re: Oxidized vulcanite stems

Using bleach and then alcohol to clean stems is redundant. Both are germ removal agents, but neither removes the oxidation. In fact, bleach leaves the oxidized remains of the germ cells it kills. Look it up. The only way to remove heavy vulcanite oxidation is with abrasion; scraping, filing, sanding...

Re: Need advice repairing a stem

Any patch will show. It's nearly impossible to match the original material in depth of color and hardness. Like putting a bow-tie on a pig - still a walking BBQ. Best thing to do is take that Dremel away from your friend...also any sharp objects!

Re: Jade green inlay material needed

Hey Ronni, Have you looked at malachite Tru-stone? It's a deep malachite green, which is pretty jadey, and in small dots, you probably woudn't see the pattern in it. http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/store/Turning_Materials___Pen_Blanks___Tru_Stone_Blank_Size_C___tru_stone_c?Args= Rad Let's see if ...

Jade green inlay material needed

I need some jade green inlay material that can be turned. Have to make some repro Brakner stems and his inlay dot color is like a medium jade green. Bakelite, acrylic, whatever can be turned. A pic with a stem and proper color dot can be supplied.

Re: new ebonite sources?

That American Art ebonite sure looks like SEM material...especially the solid colors. I got some color samples and they appear identical.

Re: ugly ebonite

Boy, am I glad I finally got approved for this forum. Tired of listening to buttocks smooching in other Forums. Reading Mike's posts, I thought I was reading George Dibos. Whew! Scary. I received replacement black ebonite from SEM a few months ago and it's good! Also got some samples of their latest...
