Have any of you ever used "Barbicide"? I use that when cleaning up old razors. It should kill any germs. Would that be overkill on a pipe stem? I've got a few old pipes I'd like to clean up, so I have some of the same questions as you...

extension how to?
Are extensions just glue on before shaping? If so, is it best to use epoxy, CA or some other glue. Also, should the mortise go all the way through the extension for added support?

I have a very basic beginner question... because that's exactly what I am! Is there a reason that stems are usually "plastic"? Is there a reason why one can't be made from wood? (assuming it will not need to be bent!)
