Re: The current state of this forum
I think Tyler's point, and he can correct me if I am wrong, has gotten lost in the State Of The Internet discussion. I don't think his point was that people being a-holes was THE reason for the downturn in the forum. His point was that it is A reason and therefore something we can do something about...

Re: Pipe #14, A Volcano
I appreciate all your guys input. My wife has given me an ultimatum. If I want to keep making pipes, I have to at least start recouping raw material and postage cost I think that is reasonable as long as I'm selling turds for 50 bucks shipped. Time is free of course. I have 3 more individuals getti...

And the post that tries to refute the topic proves it instead. Nicely done.

Re: Pipe #14, A Volcano
Thank you for taking time to help. I think I need to reset my thoughts. My excitement was to make a handmade pipe at machine made prices... At least for a while . that being in the 75 to 150 dollar range. With full time job and young kids, I don't think it is feasible for myself to expect to make h...

Re: Pipe #14, A Volcano
How long does one take to truly crisp the shapes out? I know it depends on the pipe, but in general. On the wood its a matter of being good with a wheel (the convex style work best), being able to hand sand without rolling edges and good buffing technique. On the stem, it is a matter of file work. ...

Re: Mini poker
That's a pretty nice pipe. Nice lines. Well defined without being sharp. The only issues I see is that in the second pic down it appears that either the chamber is off center or you just took a little more meat off one side. It could also be the pic because of the way it is resting on the one side. ...

Re: Pipe #14, A Volcano
Generally, on a volcano (both pipes and actual volcanoes) the "slope" of the mountain, or sides of the pipe, have a concave curve rather than a convex one like you have here. It makes it look like the pipe is bulging rather than graceful. Also, the lines from bowl to button should be harmo...

Re: UnderBender refutation
Thanks, fellas. I honestly was just trying to give a little crap back to the old man but apparently I wasn't too clear. I'll try to make my sarcasm and attitude shine through a little more.

Re: UnderBender refutation
Agreed. My point was never to say that any of these pipes are pinnacles of design and as I said the Neptune is off. My point was to show that it seems that a majority of makers are choosing underbent. I couldn't find any examples among carvers I know George respects like Bruce, Adam or Chris Asterio...

Re: UnderBender refutation
Whatever, dude. Just trying to have a conversation. I am certainly not offended by anything you've said but I like to hear reasoning behind statements rather than just say, "Oh, George said it? Well it must be true." School me you curmedgeonly old man. Don't back off now. This is just gett...

Re: UnderBender refutation
This has nothing to do with my sense of humor. I actually think this is thread is hilarious in how bent out of shape you are getting. My reccomendation is to reach behind you and unbunch your panties. Lighten up, George. Contrary to the way you are behaving in making personal attacks, I respect othe...

Re: UnderBender refutation
Obviously you can take both sides to an extreme to refute the other and I do agree that the Neptune is underbent. However, it still looks better than the overbent rhodie. If you like one more than the other, under or over, there is certainly nothing wrong with that but can you really say one way is ...

Re: UnderBender refutation
guilty as charged. Me too, although I blindly underbend because I am violently reacting against the feeling I sometimes get that certain pipes have the same visual impact as a handlebar mustache when the stem is bent too far. I generally know how things are supposed to look, but a lot of the time a...

Pipe Books
If anyone is interested I have a few books pertaining to pipes that I collected when I first started. I would like to just sell all at once rather than one at a time. I was thinking $25 shipped. All are in good condition other than the dust jacket on the Hacker book (book is fine). Weber’s Guide to ...

Re: #17 - first rhodesian... sort of
Definitely qualifies as a rhodesian. Pretty good shaping as well. The only thing I would say is what you have already said: the stem could be more eloquent. In the first pic it looks like the stem dips down just to the right of the inlay. You want to have one continuous line from the top of the shan...
