Re: Olivewood purchasing

You can buy olivewood from Woodcraft. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2005285/10824/Olivewood-2-x-2-x-6.aspx -Andrew I have one piece from Woodcraft that is still very heavy (wet) and it has been drying about six months. Heavily waxed , I finally scrapped it all off except on the ends. Somedow it ...

Re: Looking for churchwarden

Personally I think the Savinelli appears to be the best. I just do not care for the way the others look. If you wanted, you might find a bowl that you like and simply buy a churchwarden stem to put on it. PIMO and others sell them. You would have a little bit of stem work to do but it shouldnt be ma...

Re: Stabby things!

Nice work Kurt.

I believe I only made a couple of dashis. Most of them from cutoffs and my designs tended to go way off traditional quickly. Nice work on the handle wrap as well. Do you use any glue or anything on the wrap or just leave it plain?

Re: 2010-2011 Pipe In The Hat trade

Just got back in from a trip to Milwaukee, loaded up and headed put for cabin camp with my son, then straight from camp to Lacrosse practice, finish shoveling snow off of sidewalks.......I think I can sit down for a couple of minutes. First pipe blew up, second (much tamer design) not as nice as I w...

Re: A Red Apple & A Red Volcano

I like both of them. The second looks more like a small Brandy to me instead of an Apple tho. The Volcano...Since I have not done this shape please take my comment with a (ok several) grain of salt. You have very nice flowing lines on it overall. The rim is a bit thin for me but that might be solely...

Re: Need Help Shaping a Tenon

Somewhere on here is a picture of a home made tool from two pieces of wood with several different size holes split so you can place sandpaper inside the cutouts and sand a tenon down to proper size by hand. Some one else should come along that knows where the original link is located.

Well done. Reminds me a bit of the Tantos I send to troops in combat. Beadblast finish?
I will seriously be envious if you get a forge up and running.

Kurt, I do believe we may be related. My wife is constantly razzing me about "whats next?" because I will delve deeply into something new, research it, build contacts, reference material and tools until I burn out. Something new will always come up since I cannot sit without working or cre...

OK...... First chunk o' briar into the trashcan. :banghead: Maybe I went a little too far "outside the box" It certainly was looking different up till I figured out i screwed it up. My own fault for "loose" design rather than laying it out on the block exactly I guess. Hmmm I jus...

Re: Show us your shop!

These are old, actually pre-pipemangling err.. I mean making (I think) so its primarily set up for knife making. Since then I have added a second buffer, a 12 inch sanding disc, a Jet wood lathe, and a beat up very old Jet milling machine. Oh yeah and maybe most importantly I actually ran wiring and...

Re: Why a 9 x 20 and not a 7 x 12

I fairly recently purchased a Jet Mini 1014 (within the last year) and I did not pay nearly the $1000 plus you describe. At Woodcraft on sale (which they do periodically) I got the lathe, purchased the 4 jaw along with several other chucks again on sale and then bought tower jaws and a jacobs chuck ...
