Re: Pipes possibly causing loss of job for "parphanelia?"

They can really do that? WOW. No way I could work for folks like that.
Like they say, there's always somebody worse off than yourself. That's seriously crazy though.

Re: Pipes possibly causing loss of job for "parphanelia?"

No doubt about that. It's weird out here really, the corporate level loves us because without us the have no "grunts" and it's about a 50/50 split on upper management inside the plant. But us working hand in hand with the plant's enviromental leader, preventing MANY fines, and possibilitie...

Re: Pipes possibly causing loss of job for "parphanelia?"

Thanks. I'm an outside contractor in a union plant, they've been trying to boot me out for close to 4 years with none such luck. I've been threatened with drug tests because I worked too fast, my eyes were red or my all time favorite "what's that smell?" I work solo on literally the lowest...

Pipes possibly causing loss of job for "parphanelia?"

Yeah. I come into work today, this jackass walks up looking at my truck, calls the tag number in to the county cops. Apparently having a pipe and TOBACCO on plant property is considered "drug parphanelia" WTF!?!? I mean seriously, half the people working here come in tore up on whatever do...

Re: Draft hole drill bit; recommendations?

The SDS part was my mistake, I was just looking for the length. I realized that afterward. Price was right, so I bought it without really looking into it. Damn impulse.
Thanks for the advice fellas! :P

Draft hole drill bit; recommendations?

I just ordered a Milwaukee SDS carbide 3/16" X 6" for drilling draft holes. I do plan on ordering a longer one for pipes that would call for such. Just looking for suggestions on what I should look for and/or stay away from to best serve it's purpose. I'm sorta grasping straws for the mome...

Re: Questions about taste and smoke-ability

The taste toward the end may be coming from smoking too fast or too hard. Takes a good while to "develop" your smoke style, and it sometimes has to vary with the type of tobacco you're smoking. Moisture could be an issue as well. I say all that because as a former/current cigarette and cig...

Goin out on a limb, I would think going "au naturale" would look good. Just buff and wax, maybe a spit coat of shellac?
Take my advice with a grain of salt, because that's just a guess.

Very nice! The staining atop the bowl really compliments the stem!

Re: Pipes

That is awesome advice, but i have heard that certain pipe designs dissipate heat better than others and can thus affect how well the pipe smokes. You'll come to find matters like this are 99% opinion, and many are so convinced that their opinion is right that they state it as a fact :) The secret ...

Re: Absylux(r) update?

I have no idea about the composition or properties of it. I have noticed that a lot of the ABS stems I've seen seem to contort after a few smoke. So I would guess that it doesn't hold up well with heat? We've used it before to "repair" radio kits and it was very easy to manipulate, but if ...

That's just how a tomato is shaped, fairly unique to it's own style, and in this case, very well done.

Re: My first semi completed pipe, black walnut

Not too bad, ditto what Simeon said. PME (pipemakers emporium) sells prefab stem pretty cheap, in fact, you can get a grab bag of 12 assorted stems with any purchase made in the month of October for $5.00 PIMO sells em too, but I haven't heard anything about theirs (as far as review) Good job with t...

Looks like a pretty good deal to me, but then again, I am the village idiot  so take my words with a grain of salt. Re: Lathe Accessories

A few things to look at before purchasing any lathe; Maxinmum swing distance: 6"+ Distance between centers: most say 20" + remember, this distance needs to be pretty big for drilling airways and whatnot (at least 2X the maximum length of you're shank or stem to allow room for the drill bit...

Is it a wood lathe or metal lathe? I think Sherline and Craftsman lathes are synonymous, 6 one, half a dozen the other
