Re: Elektra Beckum Bas 250g bandsaw
Slight correction, I obviously forgot the word "more". It was €25 more (totalling at €200), not just €25. That would be ridiculous as most of these machines go for around €300...

Re: Elektra Beckum Bas 250g bandsaw
The day before I planned to go out and buy this bandsaw, I came across another interesting deal: An Elektra Beckum bas 315 4 WN 55. Same company, same type of bandsaw, but one size up. This one cuts up to 160mm (opposed to 100m), has 2 speeds (pulley system), was rarely ever used but built back in t...

the grain on the last one is absolutely stunning. especially the birdseye structure on the top of the bowl.
But I like the second to last one the best, a very nice pipe!

Re: preparing of briar...??
I know my dad used wood soaked in Jack Daniels in the bottom of our gas barbecue to flavor the meat.
Maybe you can boil the Briar in Jack Daniels to give it a better taste?

Re: # 12
A very special model. I'm not sure yet how I feel about it. I think it's a really nice pipe to hold in your hand, it looks comfortable :-D I do feel it would look better if the underside of the shank/bowl transition was sharper, keeping the lower backside of the bowl in line with the upper backside....

Re: Elektra Beckum Bas 250g bandsaw
The seller wanted €250 first, I got him down to €175, so I decided to take the risk and buy the darn thing.
It even comes with the subframe.
Only downside: the 240km (=150miles) drive to go and get it So it'll be another week or maybe 2 before I can go and pick it up...

Elektra Beckum Bas 250g bandsaw
First of all, my apologies for creating yet another "is this a good tool" topic. I've been on the lookout for a second hand bandsaw for some time now, and have come across one that is within budget and looks decent. The model is an Elektra Beckum bas 250 g, also known as a Metabo bas 250g....

Re: Pipe raffle to help Japan!
Trever, could you tell me, how thick are the bowls walls on this pipe?
We (my co-pipesmokers on the dutch forum and myself) were wondering how thick they are...

I've spread the word to the Dutch/Belgian pipesmoking forum (which has quite a few Talbert-fans) hoping to raise even more money for the victims in Japan

Re: Evolution of a shape • Omut
I agree with BeatusLiebowitz, the finishes are amazing.
I like the grain on the first one the best by far. The cross grain on the front and birdseye on the back are stunning.
But I do think you've improved the overall shape towards your last one. I feel the round shank suits the pipe better.

Re: 1st pipe kit (Pimo's Ebauchon/Bent)
wow! how did you draw those lines? thats pretty cool. :D well leave the air hole were it is but make the tobacco chamber almost touch the bottem then that would be closer to what it looks like. Thanks so much for all your advice. It is much appreciated. So the airhole joins the tobacco chamber half...

Re: 1st pipe kit (Pimo's Ebauchon/Bent)
Does the airhole from the shank join the tobacco chamber on the very bottom of the tobacco chamber? If so, I'm guessing your airhole isn't in the center of the shank, but moreso in the very bottom of your shank? First of all: By no means am I an experienced pipemaker. But I'm going to try this expla...

you are obviously not a reptile keeper thenTimGeorge wrote:Nice shop, and a nice dog. I heartily recommend a good dog for any pipemaker. Let's face it, no one else is going to stay in there with you for hours and hours and be happy with the occassional pat on the head.

I only need one thing with all of that: shipping to Europe :D On a more serious note: I'd love to get some decently made spoon bits from you in the future, depending on their price. I'm only setting up shop, very slowly, so no big investments yet... *cough* just spent about €350 (around $500) on a d...

Re: Master Tsuge... :)
Watch the smoke rise when he drills the draft hole. Guess the Master ignores the admonition about never letting your bit get too hot or it will burn the wood and cause an unpleasant taste when the pipe is smoked. bob gilbert I've never drilled my own pipe (bought myself a drill press just last week...

Re: First pipe: second attempt
The stain was indeed a bit uneven, should be a bit better now in the finished product. There's 2 spots left where it's a bit uneven though: the top of the bowl and the end of the shank... Even though I have to agree the transition had to be a bit sharper still, I've decided to let it rest in this st...

First pipe: second attempt
A few months ago I joined this forum, and posted my first pipe. Comments in general were not really positive, but correct nonetheless. I tried taking these comments in, and refactored my first pipe to the best of my ability. Yes, I know, this still is a predrilled block I bought, as I don't have the...

Re: Introducing myself
Don't be offended Massis - it's your first pipe, it's from a kit, and that's exactly what it looks like. The color is nice and even but the finish could be shinier - that looks like it was sanded at about 600 grit and called done. The stem bend is nicely done, the transition onto the shank is not s...
