Re: Switching lathes…

I've mainly used a long carbide turning tool in my multifix tool holder as a tool rest for a small wood turning chisel. It's not safe, but it works. The easiest way to switch lathes if you wanted to (though it's probably a bad idea), is to either ensure both lathes have the same headstock thread so ...

Re: applying sandpaper to Rudat Design french wheel

I also started cutting back on the power of the motor. My current sanding motor is only 200W (it might be 250W, I can't be arsed to go check), so about 1/3rd HP and I find it plenty powerful enough for my needs and keeps the electricity bill low. And here I am running two 1.5 kW motors... But I got...

Re: How many "file-made pipes" before upgrading to lathe?

I always say: if you have to choose 1 tool to start with, let it be a stationary motor. With a jacobs chuck mounted to the axle, this is a perfect sanding setup and polishing setup but also a decent drilling setup. Granted, it's harder to face a shank for example than it is with a drill press, but t...

Re: Blasting. Pot or Siphon?

Think about lighting as well. My $100 cabinet doesn’t have a light, and I make do with a Bright LED light outside the window. DocAitch Mine came with a TL-light but it was rubbish. I've simply changed it to a cheap heavy duty LED-strip glued to a piece of wood and that's been working fine for a cou...

Re: Blasting. Pot or Siphon?

IF you already have a 200liter compressor, simply adding a cheap cabinet should be enough to get you going. Those cabinets come equipped with gun, nozzle and siphon setup. No reason to go for a pot. Simply pour a couple of kg's of beads in the base of your cabinet and you're good to go. I've got the...

Re: 9mm filter drill bit

I'm going to disagree with you guys here, it's mostly a matter of market. As in: when a US customer asks me for a 9mm pipe, I'm on the lookout for trouble. However when a Dutch customer asks for a 9mm I won't even think twice about it. And that makes sense: Outside of Germany and the Netherlands, pr...

Re: Magnum Liverpool

The only thing I kinda don't like here is the thickness of the shank compared to the bowl height - it's like a magnum pot because of it. If that's the only thing, then I'm happy :-) You see, the guy ordering it wanted a massive pipe with an equally massive shank and stem. I agree the shank is prett...

Magnum Liverpool

This was going to be a smooth, until a massive gaping hole on the stem opened up. However, the bowl had such amazing grain I couldn't bring myself to sandblasting it completely, an opinion shared by the customer ordering it. So we ended up going for a blasted shank and a smooth stummel. This itty bi...

a classic

It's been a while since I've made such a classical shape, so I figured it was the perfect excuse to let the members of this forum tear it apart. My apologies for the pictures being a bit dark, I'm in the early stages of renovating a large part of my house, after which I'll finally have a much better...

Re: Who is good for briar right now (UK)

Good for what? Good for using tomorrow? Good for cut? Grain? Value? The answer is nobody. It's all shit. Hope this helps! In seriousness Chris, the marketplace has changed in the last ten years, demand is really high and there's a lack of good quality "ready" briar. The usual suspects wil...

I contacted Mr Cooke about this, as I didn't want to have it on YouTube against his wishes.

As per his request, I have removed it again.

Lol I just came across it on my laptop a few weeks ago too and watched it again.
I'm wondering. It's so old now, would it be an issue to upload it to YouTube?
