Re: Pipemaking injuries

While rough sanding my first pipe the block caught the sander and flew out of my hands and hit me in the face, i got a black eye from it. I also hit my knuckle on the sander and sanded right down to the bone, cold air does not mix well with exposed bone :!:

Re: Pipes of our lives

Axe, I've done about 10 big flared Calabashes recently, this blonde one was kind of inspired by a nice little Ashton I saw. I mighta bought the Ashton but at the last second I noticed that it was over-represented in the photos and was a really tiny pipe - like 4.5" long kinda thing. So I hit t...

Re: Pipes of our lives

Very nice pipes. I do think that the calabash could be a little bit wider towards the top of the bowl for my tastes though. But all in all you make some excellent pipes :notworthy:

That is the only reason why i inquire so frequently about alternative woods is because i can get pretty much any wood i want for free, except for briar :x . I got black market connections

Briar retailers

I have been looking around for briar retailers and i cant seem to find that many. Pipe makers emporium has a good selection but they are sold out of a lot of what i would like to purchase. Anyone have any other good links?

Gun kits

Ive been looking into making things other than pipes, although pipe making will still me my main hobby or maybe even a career  . Ive been thinking about making guitars, knives, or even a gun kit. Anyone got a good place i can go to get info and/or materials for these kinds of projects?

Disc sander speed...

I have looked through these forums and i cant seem to find anything on what a good speed for shaping is. Im finding that the drill i have that spins at 3000 rpms takes more off than i would like it too and im going thru sandpaper like crazy. What is a good speed for shaping on a disc sander?

Re: Pipes possibly causing loss of job for "parphanelia?"

I would definitely take them to court if they fire you. A pipe in the form of the one that you probably smoke is hardly if not ever used to smoke illegal substances out of so it is complete bs that they would fire you for paraphernalia, especially if they searched your vehicle and foun nothing illeg...

Re: First Pipe - Black Walnut

from what i know - wax will come of of any wood... :)
From what i have heard though, wax comes off of cherry wood a lot quicker than it does briar, i was wondering how well the black walnut came out seeing as how i have a lot of it :)

Re: First Pipe - Black Walnut

How well did the wax hold up on the pipe, i know that after a while wax tends to come off of cherrywood. Also what kinds of wax did you use to get that shine my friend? :)

Ive been looking at a lot of his pipes and for most i have no idea how he drills the air hole for the pipe, are some of them done in two pieces and then joined? :?
