Re: Oh my God, I can't believe I'm doing this...

Don't forget about the elementary school science experiment that can be done using ebonite rod. "when an ebonite rod is rubbed with animal fur the rod becomes negatively charged as fur is what?" I have turned both the standard and Cumberland rod from the group buy, obviously they both stin...

Re: a few new pipes

thanks! the billiard was number 1 of about 4 billiards i made in the last group. I have noticed improvement in every one, so much in fact that it is painful to even look at this pipe. I want to nail down the machanics of billiards and straight pipes in general before making too many bents. It takes ...

Re: edge-safe files

I actually bought mine at sears about 4 months ago. I really dont know what they are intended for, but they are a little thinner and wider than the needle files i have and produce about the same results as far as finish goes.

a few new pipes

I havent posted any pipes for a while, out of the last 6 , 2 got away before i had a chance to take pictures, and one cant be posted due to the billiard contest. This pipe was my original entry into the contest, but due to the shaping and proportions i decided to make another for the contest. the bo...

Re: edge-safe files

I will probably make at least one edge of all my files safe eventually. I have an ignition file i shaped to file the inside of the slot. The file is .030" thick, about half the thickness of the #199 cutter used on the slot. It has really helped produce a deep vee slot. http://i1137.photobucket....

Re: Four New (Old) Motors

sounds about right. I think i remember reading that 800 is final buff speed, then you could use the 1050 for slack sanding. As long as you have room to mount all the motors.

It's been months since I have made a short ugly bulldog. cant wait! So is the choice up to the carver, or are we narrowing it down to one shape?

Re: Got Briar?

i have said it before, but if you are looking for a few blocks, email tim west at jhlowe.com i ordered last monday, and they were here by wed afternoon. He has, at least in my case, shipped blocks before payment clears, and most of the time before I even send payment. give it a shot.

Re: Group Ebonite buy

Thats right! thanks for clearing that up rad. I forgot it was supposed to be stewy sewer gas. I guess i dont have an "artist's" nose. Smells like bad bacon to me. I am leaning toward feeling bad for ripping on a guy that can't defend himself, I would like to think he is reading this with a...

Re: Group Ebonite buy

To ease your worries, I should let you know i received my rods. I turned a few stems directly after finishing an acrylic stem. The german ebonite turns, sands and buffs much better than acrylic, or any other stem material i have used. even cutting the slot is a smoother operation. the only drawback ...

Re: Billiard Contest

I am planning to make a copy of the first pipe i owned. The shank is cracked and the stem worn to almost nothing, but i want to replace it with this pipe so she can retire with a little dignity. The question is, is a saddle stem acceptable? I assume that stem style will not be a factor in the final ...

Re: Billiard Contest

If it isn't too late, I would like the oppertunity to lose this contest. I was wondering if I would have time/materials before the contest ends. looks like, with Wayne's ebonite coming in will be able to do it.
