Re: I need advice
Consider the Australian-made Vicmarc. I use one one my Delta Midi lathe. High-quality chuck. They use a "T" hex wrench to operate the scroll. Tower jaws are a must. For my metal lathe, I have a Batson/Cortner and a Ken Lamb. Both are direct-thread for my old Logan lathe. I have an adapter ...

I'm with Scottie: absolute crap. My cat could have done better.
I'm also with her on wanting more info on that neat vise.
Ok, ok, I'll reluctantly give you a "good job".

Scottie, A request for clarification, if I may. You've indicated the theme for the carving contest this year is a bamboo shank. I was under the impression that as long as bamboo was incorporated in some manner in the construction, it was "anything goes". Has it now been ruled that it must ...

Re: Fixing production shaping errors
Speaking of shanks, it appears that the length of your patient's shank is longer than the "good" one. I was under the impression that fixed tooling produced the stummels. Were production workers free to make adjustments on their own? Or was there a change in the design at some point? Or???

Welcome to the forum.
When I got out of the Navy I worked for a photogrammetric engineering firm in KC. I was involved in all phases of making topo maps from taking the aerial photos to ground surveying and operating Kelsh plotters. Quite interesting.

I guess the question I would ask is exactly what are you looking for inre the final result of the blast?
And, on second thought, one might see life of the media beyond one pass since briar is not as hard as a lot of surfaces that ground glass is used upon.
To coin a unique acronym: TIAFO

Sas -- what program/tool/app/thingie are you using to draw them purty lines? That sort of thing should be the backbone of shaping critiques around here. I'm not sure how Sas does it but it is quite easy in PhotoShop Elements (I have version 10 which serves me well) Right-click on the image and save...

Re: round glass bead vs. sharp glass bead?
Sharp glass "bead" is a bit of a misnomer. Glass beads are just that, glass that has been processed to form a smooth spherical "bead". Ground glass is everyday glass that has been recycled by grinding it down into fine particles of varying sizes. It is much more aggressive (simil...

This works well: UHMW tape, https://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/123/3497/=166hbpk
Item 7802A22 (.500 pre-cut disc). Also available in pre-cut squares and rolls.
More aggressive adhesive is available also if you're into vaporizing the briar.

If there is a chance the joint can get hot I use J-B Weld (steel version) which can take 500F. Otherwise, I use G-Flex. I use a slow set CA for making up stacks of trim rings. ^^^^^^^ This Charles and Scottie: 1. Do you use Gflex for tenons? 2. Will you describe a situation where the joint might ge...
